I went for the bottom row this week – Black or White, 1 layer, Free. My “free” element is basically “pop of color”. And, though this isn’t strictly a 1-layer card (the DSP is layered on top of the Basic Black cardstock), the DSP is adhered directly to the black and there are no other embellishments or pop-up elements. Sometimes super simple is just right!

What I love about this design, and what you’ll see in the Project Tutorial & Kit is that this one layout works for all of the DSP in the pack – leaving you with lots of design options.

This is technically a Paper Pumpkin alternate idea as I used the stamp set from the Aug 2016 – Bold Botanicals kit. Though any sentiment from “hello” to “welcome” or “welcome to the neighborhood” would work great!

This time, I used every block except the Thank You block. If I’d had the right sentiment to fit the space, this would have been a thank you card – for a full board!

I love that this design is quick and simple. Swap out the DSP for another pattern, the background color for another rich, masculine color, and the sentiment for any other occasion and you have a quick set ready to go for any occasion.

Rhinestones? Yes, please! Even masculine cards can do with a bit of bling. Coloring these in black helps to keep them from popping too much, while still adding dimension and interest to the otherwise straight-forward design!

Hint: Use your Stampin’ Blends to color rhinestones in any shade you need!

If you like the look – be on the lookout next week for a tutorial and supply kit to make this card and a few variations so you have the perfect masculine cards for all sorts of occasions!

This Little Piggy: Easy Sketch

I love it when a design comes together 1, 2, 3!

I was already in a piggy frame of mind after finishing this project for last week’s On the CASE with Ann & Nicole so I was pleased as punch when I saw the ANIMAL block in this week’s Tic Tac Toe Challenge board! Design Team O is up this week so don’t forget to stop by and see all of my teammates creations!

I instantly honed in on the top row – animal, thank you, stripes and I went straight for the few remaining scraps I had from the Painted With Love DSP. I literally used my last scrap piece for this design, and, yes, it’s striped!

There’s such a strange sense of accomplishment when an entire pack of Designer Paper is used up! Don’t you think?

The great thing about this design is that I could replicate it over and over and just keep swapping out that background pattern for any that I might have on hand.

I thought I’d go one more time with the watercoloring on Whisper White cardstock with the help of clear gesso. This technique is really one that should be a staple in your toolbox if you like to watercolor a lot! Here’s a link to the video…

Heartfelt Sympathy: Rustic Vibe

Two Days – Two Ways: Get the most out of your stamp sets!

Today and tomorrow, I’m focusing on a set that’s been collecting dust on my shelf – Heartfelt Sympathy. Since I want to make sure you get the most out of your supplies, we’re going to explore two different ways to create a great design!

Today’s card was designed for Tic Tac Toe Challenge. Design Team O is up this week with another fun challenge board.

I took my inspiration from the left to right diagonal – Twine, Metallic, Rhinestones.

I really, truly am in love with this card! I’ve always loved this stamp set, and wanted to figure out a way to make it a bit more masculine – or at least appropriate to send to a couple in their time of loss.

I started with the sentiment on some Sahara Sand, but thought it looked too clean. So, I distressed the edges…. not vintage/rustic enough…. enter ink splotches. Perfecto!

Of course, I had to add in the requisite metallic touches and Rhinestones. Touches of floral are a-ok for a masculine-ish card. Dont’ch’a think? And, to take the edge off the rhinestones, I colored them black.

Love this card? You can make it with me! The tutorial and video, and supply pack is available now!

Eastern Beauty: Bright Smile

Are you a color-phobe? Do you avoid bright, bold colors and patterns?

I certainly do! But, I’m working on introducing more of both into my life – in clothes, home design and in my card-making. Enter Eastern Palace!  I dabbled with this Annual Catalog product suite when the catalog came out almost a year ago.

Honestly, the Tranquil Tide and Dapper Denim combo was just too much Regal for me…. but, there’s so much else to love about the DSP (especially Lemon Lime Twist!) that I knew I had to give it another try!

Today’s card was designed for Tic Tac Toe Challenge. Design Team O is up this week with another fun challenge board.

I opted for the diagonal this week: Green, Sparkle, Happy.

Is Lemon Lime Twist green or yellow? I guess it’s either! But I always see it as more green than yellow. Especially when paired with blues.

Does the tassel qualify as “sparkle” – Definitely! That gold tassel is just too much fun, and oh, so easy to use. The 1/8″ hole punch is the perfect size to slip the metal ring through. Just don’t go too far from the edge of your element. There’s some sparkle in that 1/4″ Natural Trim too. See it peeking out there?

And lastly, Happy. That sentiment is definitely one of “happiness”. It’s perfect for a friend, or any loved one. People who hold a place in your heart should always bring a smile to your face! But that pattern – oh, that DSP makes me soooo happy! I L-O-V-E the medallion pattern. It’s a very popular shape right now. I’m sure you have seen all the tile backsplashes and wallpaper using similar patterns.

If you love this design, and you want to learn how to make it with me, the tutorial (PDF + Video), and supply pack (US addresses only) will be available on Monday – Along with a host of other Eastern Palace Suite projects!
