  8. Add a sentiment if desired.

AECP: Create a Rotating Stamp Design

Today’s technique is going to blow your mind!
I have been a fan of the rotating stamp style, like Concord & 9th’s Turnabout ™ stamps, for a while now. It’s just so cool how you can turn the paper 90-degrees, stamp the same image, and end up with a filled-in design that looks like wallpaper or wrapping paper!

AECP: Double Stencil Technique

Let’s go next-level with stencils!
Stencils are pretty popular right now, and there’s so many ways you can use them. I was inspired by my latest Altenew Academy class to see what new and innovative way I could use them for my latest project.

Welcome back for another Festive Friday!
It seems like every time I check the calendar, it’s time for another Festive Friday challenge! We’ve got a pretty predictable challenge this round – since Mother’s Day is coming up soon.

Festive Friday: Make a Rainbow Using Only 3 Inks

Play along at the Festive Friday Challenge. DT members provide written or video instructions for their projects each challenge! Find us @festivefridaychallenge or festivefridaychallenge.com. New challenges every other Friday! #cardchallenge

True or False: You need a rainbow of ink to make a rainbow…

Well, if you read the title of this post, I hope you figured out that you don’t need a rainbow of ink. You only need three. The only requirement is that the inks blend well. Because of that, I recommend Distress Oxides! They’re a creamy pigment and die blend that just loves to blend together and plays well with water for additional technique possibilities.

(affiliate links are used in this post. When you click on them and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. Thanks for supporting my blog!)

My inspiration came from the newest Festive Friday challenge that gets us thinking about Spring and Summer with rainbows as an option, and the featured festivity of Earth Day (April 21st).

Looking for ideas – here’s a few:

  • Earth Day is typically partnered with the idea of recycling. You could use some scraps you have from previous projects, or look to unusual materials as elements – like pop cans, recycled paper or plastic, etc.
  • Rainbows are a super fun element – this is another super flexible option that you can take literally, or abstractly. Add a simple rainbow to your design, or just go for a rainbow of colors in your cardstock or ink choices.
  • CASE one of the DT projects and add your own twist to our designs. Of course, if you blog about it, we would love for you to mention the Designer as your inspiration for your project. Here’s links to all of the Designers:

Here’s my take:

Let’s get on with the Party Plan so you can recreate this beauty!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

(Affiliate shopping links are listed at the end of the post)

Stamps: Better Together (Altenew)
Paper: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ – Solar White 110lb (Neenah), 6″ x 6″ 110 lb Watercolor Card (Strathmore)
Inks: Candied Apple, Salty Ocean & Wild Honey Distress Oxides (Ranger/Tim Holtz), Versafine Clair Nocturne (Tsukineko), Picket Fence Distress Stain (Ranger/Tim Holtz), Vegas Gold All-Purpose Ink (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Cool Summer Night & Pocketful of Sunshine enamel dots (Altenew)
Other: Heat Tool, Stamp Positioner (Tonic), Scallop Builder Stencil (Altenew), Distress Blender & Pads (Ranger), double sided adhesive (Scrapbook.com)

Party Plan

(your step-by-step guide to CASE-ing this design)
** Click the images to see the enlarged slideshow **

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″ and set aside.
  2. Set up the watercolor card with the Scallop Builder stencil.
  3. Start the ink blending from the center – cover approximately 1/2 – 2/3 of the entire card with Wild Honey. You will blend into this, so  make sure there’s enough to have some yellow show through later.
  4. Next start blending from the top down with Candied Apple. Avoid the yellow area until the top has the desired shade of red, then start moving into the yellow area to make orange!
  5. Repeat this process from the bottom up using Salty Ocean – moving into the yellow to make green.
  6. Remove the stencil when done and decide if you will add water to distress the panel. If so, spritz water on the panel – just a light mist at first to see how it moves, then more if desired. For best results, dry with a heat tool.
  7. Flick Picket Fence and Vegas Gold inks onto the watercolor panel. Allow it to dry, or use the heat tool.
  8. Trim the watercolor panel to 4″ x 5 1/4″.
  9. Cut a piece of double sided adhesive to size. Adhere it smoothly to the watercolor panel, then adhere the panel to the card base. This is a perfect solution to make sure a warped panel lays flat!
  10. Set up the card in a stamp positioner with the desired sentiment. Stamp in Versafine Clair Nocturne.
  11. Add enamel dots as desired.

Are you ready to take glitter paper to the next level?

I’ve been having a lot of fun coming up with new ways to add some “wow” to my projects, and I’m really in love with the look I’ve got for you this week. It was totally inspired by the newest Festive Friday challenge. I hope you get inspired and play along with us!

Here’s the latest Festive Friday challenge card. I don’t know that there’s really an occasion to actually make a Mardi Gras card, but you surely can be inspired by the festivity!

Looking for ideas – here’s a few:

  • CASE one of the DT projects and add your own twist to our designs. Of course, if you blog about it, we would love for you to mention the Designer as your inspiration for your project.
  • What comes to mind when you think of Mardi Gras? Beads? Colors? King Cake? Floats? Parades? How would you capture some of that in a design – maybe through colorful pearls or through a colorful a celebration card? Typical Mardi Gras colors are green, gold, and purple.
  • Are you thinking about Brazil’s Carnivale instead? What kinds of colors or textures come to mind that you could use for a project?
  • Can you go more abstract? That’s what I did – I’ll show you how!

Here’s my take:

I totally went for the glimmer paper, along with a celebration theme. Lastly, I used a MASK (or stencil), as a loose inspiration from Mardi Gras where people wear masks!

I thought as a bonus for today, I’d share how I created the cool art deco pattern on the glimmer paper using a mask and ink. It was simple, but totally WOW!

Don’t forget to leave a comment at the end of the post to qualify for my monthly giveaway!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

(Affiliate shopping links are listed at the end of the post)

Stamps: Super Script (Altenew),
Paper: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ – Solar White 110lb (Neenah), 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Black Glossy Cardstock (Tonic), 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ – Gold Glimmer Paper (Kaisercraft), 4″ x 3″ – Solar White 80lb (Neenah), 3″ x 3″ – Vellum (Lawn Fawn)
Inks: Versafine Clair Nocturne (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Gold Metallic Thread (xxx), Black Tie Sequins (28 Lilac Lane)
Other: Deco Wallpaper Stencil (Altenew), Washi or Painter’s Tape, Heat Tool, Stencil Brush or sponge dauber (Scrapbook.com), Super Script Dies (Altenew), Infinity Circle Dies (Hero Arts), Big Shot (Sizzix), Stamp Positioner (Tonic/Tim Holtz), Mini Glue Dots (Glue Dots)

Party Plan

(your step-by-step guide to CASE-ing this design)
Click on the images to enlarge the slideshow

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Adhere the glossy black cardstock to the card base. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder. Set aside
  2. Setup the glimmer paper and stencil on a hardboard, or cardboard panel.
  3. Use the stencil brush (or dauber) and black ink and brush gently over the stencil. Lift up an edge to take a look and make sure the coverage is what you want.
  4. When complete, wait for panel to dry, or use a heat tool to set the ink. Then, trim to 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″ adhere it to the card base.
  1. Stamp the Celebrate sentiment using a stamp positioner. This way, you can re-ink it to get a good, dark impression.
  2. Once dry, diecut the sentiment with the coordinating die.
  3. Stamp the small “let’s” – as you can see, I did it a few times so I could pick out the best result.
  4. Add foam adhesive to the back of the diecut, then add some gold metallic thread.
  1. Diecut or punch a 2 1/2″ circle from vellum. Adhere the sentiment to the vellum.
  2. Adhere the finished sentiment element to the card base.
  3. Add some sequins to the card using Mini Glue Dots.

Now it’s your turn to link up!

Birthdays – ready or not, here they come!

I don’t know about you, but birthdays seem to always sneak up on me! I’ll see one on my calendar a few weeks out, and then, poof, it’s the day before and I don’t even have the card in the mail, yet alone made! Well, not this year! I’m determined to get cards out in the mail 2 weeks before.

Reality – yah, I’m not meeting that goal yet. Maybe February. I gotta get organized on that!

Anyway, this all ties into Festive Friday’s latest challenge. Since Valentine’s day is just a few weeks away, we went kind of obvi on this one…

Play along at the Festive Friday Challenge. DT members provide written or video instructions for their projects each challenge! Find us @festivefridaychallenge or festivefridaychallenge.com. New challenges every other Friday! #cardchallenge

Looking for ideas – here’s a few:

  • Go for a combo of traditional red hues for your Valentine’s creation this year and link it up. We’d love to see what you’re giving to your SO
  • Have an out-of-the-box Heart-day idea in mind? That qualifies too!
  • Boycotting the day or just have other projects in mind? Throw in a splash of RED and you’re in!

Here’s My Take:

This design is GORGEOUS, and SIMPLE. Can it get any better?! Vellum, embossing, gilding, and a sophisticated shade of RED-orange! This one is going to my SIL who’s birthday is this month! Ready to try your hand at this design? Let’s check out the Party Plan!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

(Affiliate shopping links are listed at the end of the post)

Stamps: Sentiments for Every Day (Scrapbook.com)
Paper: 11″ x 4 1/4″ – Solar White 110lb (Neenah), 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Hibiscus  CS (Bazzill), 1″ x 6″ – Vellum (Lawn Fawn)
Inks: Versafine Clair Nocturne (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Black Rhinestones (Kaisercraft)
Other: Heat Tool, Big Shot, Stamp Positioner and/or acrylic blocks, Anti-static powder, Black Embossing Powder (Ranger), Botanical 3D Embossing Folder (Sizzix/Tim Holtz), Silver Bullion Gilding Flakes (Nuvo), 2-Way Glue Pen (Zig)

Party Plan

(your step-by-step guide to CASE-ing this design)

  1. Score the card base at 5 1/2″ and set aside
  2. Emboss the Hibiscus CS with the Botanical 3D embossing folder. You will LOVE the deep impressions from this one 😀
  3. Add some Zig 2-way glue to the raised parts of the embossed piece – anywhere you want the gilding flakes to stick. Wait for the glue to dry to it’s tacky state.
  4. Get ready for a bit of a mess (so worth it) and add the Nuvo Radiant Gold gilding flakes to the cardstock. For best results, rub a pile of it across the cardstock until all the glue is covered.
  5. Use a brush to wipe away all of the excess flakes. You can save the flakes for another project, or just toss.
  1. Prep the strip of Lawn Fawn Vellum with an anti-static bag, and stamp the sentiment in Versafine Clair Nocturne. Because this is a pigment ink, it will remain wet enough to pick up the embossing powder.
  2. Add the black embossing powder and heat set.
  3. Adhere the vellum strip to the Hibiscus CS by folding over the excess length on either side and adhering to the back of the CS. That way, you won’t see any adhesive!
  4. Adhere the finished panel to the card base and add black rhinestones for an extra elegant touch!

Now it’s your turn to link up!

Now that you’re all inspired, what will you create? The clock is ticking away for #FF0026 and we want to see your design. Link up your project over at Festive Friday and you might just be named a Festive Fave!
