#IMBRINGINGBIRTHDAYSBACK – have you heard of this movement? Its the idea that birthdays – and special occasions – are more important than just a text, a Tweet or a like or post on Facebook! How can you bring birthdays back? The easiest way is to do something from the heart. And, what’s more heartfelt than a handmade card?

I’m still working furiously behind the scenes to bring some new, fresh stuff to you. So while I continue to devise and refine, how about another Pals Paper Arts sketch? Today’s sketch is deceptively hard in its simplicity, and is brought to you by Ginger Tovoinen – an amazing Pal from Butte, Montana!

PPA + #IMBRINGINGBIRTHDAYSBACK = a sweet design for a milestone birthday!Click To Tweet
Today I decided to combine the PPA sketch, and the idea of #IMBRINGINGBIRTHDAYSBACK for a very special occasion  – my husband’s 40th birthday! What a great way to show him some love – make him a handmade card! Of course, I couldn’t resist the common theme of dark and dreary with the black and sliver. But, these days, 40 is hardly over the hill! Really, we feel like life is just beginning!!

Maven’s Mastery Tips

Dies Nest for a Reason!

Our square, circle and oval dies nest for a reason! So you can cut out cool shapes!!! Or, in this case, so you can cut out a half-circle arch to fit in a sentiment. Worried about our dies on the retiring list. I promise you better things are yet to come in the new catalog! So, breathe!! Change is good!

Be Flexible!

My top tip today is that our photopolymer stamps are flexible! So, come up with new ideas by bending them on their block for a different look. As you can see in my tooltip photo, I bent the sentiment slightly so it would fit in the arc I made with two circle dies. Easy – and CUSTOM!

Mix Patterns - subtlely

There’s lots of stripes going on here, but it’s not too noticeable! That’s because they’re pretty subtle. The vellum and silver can be pretty bold, but with the black showing through they tone down a bit. And, of course, tone-on-tone black is about as subtle as you can get! I could have used two different patterns, and it would have been ok. So, don’t be afraid to experiment!
