5 Ways to Add a Lace Look

The Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop. Join us each month for inspiration and amazing projects using Stampin' Up! products. #pmretreat #stampinup #bloghop #rubberstamping #papercrafting

Welcome to the first ever Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop! This month’s theme is Sale-a-Bration, so I thought I’d showcase 5 ways to add a lace look using the Delicate Details stamp set. It’s a lovely “accessory” stamp set that’s available FREE with $50 purchase during Sale-a-Bration!

Since this is an “accessory” stamp set (doesn’t have any sentiments) I paired it with another Sale-a-Bration set – Any Occasion. You’ll see that my samples really are great for any occasion — Lace isn’t reserved for the frilly and feminine!

You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog or may be hopping over from elsewhere on the list. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects.

Lace isn't just for the frilly & feminine. Today's 5 designs take you outside the box!Click To Tweet

Stretching My Creativity

Ok – here we go! 5 ways to add a lacy look. I came up with the title before I created the projects, so I was committed (or doomed to an eternity in the Retreat to come up with 5 samples). After I got past the first one, the rest came easy. I think the key tipping point was deciding to add in the Any Occasion stamp set for the sentiments. It helped set the tone and card size (I opted for our 3.5 x. 5 notecards).

There’s lots of watercoloring too… it really is quite fun to come up with washes and other ways to use our reinkers and aquapainters! Ok, so, enough blahblahblahblah…. Click on the plus signs to view each project.

1. Distressed & Hinted-at Lace

This is the design that kicked-off this whole collection. I wanted watercolor – bright & vivid. I wanted lace – hinted-at… UGH! It took me a couple of tries, but I finally arrived at gorgeous! Yes – that is Tempting Turquoise. Straight from the re-inker with just a hint of water added. Layer, dry. Layer, dry. Layer, dry. Then, the lace was stamped with Whisper White craft ink, and immediately covered in white embossing powder. I took a dry paintbrush to the powder to remove some of it from the lace, then heat-set it. I did stamp the “twine” stamp to align the sentiment, but then I glued some Linen Thread right over the top, with one of the Party Animal embellishments. I did add some Clear Wink of Stella to the lace in the end…

2. Lace In-The-Round
For the Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop, March 2017. Featuring Delicate Details & Any Occasion stamp sets, Aquapainters, Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, Gold Wink of Stella #pmretreat #stampinup #thankyou#greetingcard #handstamped

This one came together quick! Another watercolor wash using Tempting Turquoise reinker – this time, on Shimmery White Cardstock. Then, some ink spatter, and Gold Wink of Stella spatter. Dry it up quick with the Heat Tool. Then, I punched out a 2″ circle from some scrap and attached it to an acrylic block. I was able to work one of the lace patterns around the circle, and add the sentiment around the bottom (check out my Instagram feed). Genius! Stamp in Basic Black Archival Ink, add the Dragonfly and pop-up on some Stampin’ Dimensionals.

3. Lace in the Background
For the Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop, March 2017. Featuring Delicate Details & Any Occasion stamp sets, Aquapainters, Gold Sequins Trim, Gold Wink of Stella #pmretreat #stampinup #wedding #weddingshower #greetingcard #handstamped

I know you’ve seen it everywhere, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t use all of the Delicate Details stamps in a big block to create a background. Here, Whisper White Craft Ink on a Crumb Cake Notecard is a nice, light detail to set the background apart from the top layer. There’s some more Turquoise watercolor wash with gold and turquoise spatter. This time, a tiny bit of Calypso Coral – in both the hearts and the background strip. Oh, and how about some glitz with a small sequins flag? Wondering how I got that scallop? I used just the top of the Best Badge Punch! Nice hack, right?

4. Lace Gone Masculine…?
For the Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop, March 2017. Featuring Delicate Details & Any Occasion stamp sets, Aquapainters,Urban Underground Embellishments, Gold Wink of Stella #pmretreat #stampinup #birthday #masculine #greetingcard #handstamped

I knew I wanted to get in a good guy look, so here we are. Crumb Cake notecard with watercoloring across the bottom. I opted for the more curly-cue stamps from Delicate Details. Does it count as lace? There’s some more Turquoise and gold splatter, and the Happy Birthday banner. To set off the top layer, I added a strip of Tangerine Tango to the top, and a screw head element from the Urban Underground embellishments.

5. Lace As An Architectural Feature
For the Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop, March 2017. Featuring Delicate Details & Any Occasion stamp sets, Aquapainters, Gold Sequins Trim, Gold Wink of Stella #pmretreat #stampinup #hello #greetingcard #handstamped

This last look is pretty far out. I got some watercolor paper really wet on top and dripped the ink and let it roll. That’s what I got. Pretty neat!. Then, I added the two lace patterns – one on the base card, and one on the watercolor element. I thought I would use ribbon, but opted for the Gold Sequins Trim instead. I think the whole top has an architectural look to it. Kind of  like crown molding or the top of a column, or wood “gingerbread” detail (technically called a Spandrel). I used the Signo White Gel Pen to add some white detail, just for some pop.

Season’s Greetings for the Paper Players (PP272)

It’s been a while since I played along with a challenge group outside of Pals Paper Arts, but I thought it was about time to get back to it. I’ve always loved the variety of the challenges and all the different styles over at The Paper Players, so I thought I’d head back there first! Hi Paper Player designers! I’m so glad to be playing along with your fab sketch challenge this week! Here’s their sketch:

Paper Players 272 - play along today! (thepaperplayers.blogspot.com)

I will give you a hint, that the sketch for Pals Paper Arts coming up on Thursday is very, very similar! Funny how that happens sometimes! Well, I have a totally different design for PPA that you’ll see on Thursday, so, until then, enjoy my creation for The Paper Players!

USE your DSP!

I’m using three, yes THREE different DSP designs on this card – Timeless Elegance, Home for Christmas, and Color Me Irresistible. If you count the Gold Foil – that’s four! Don’t be afraid to tear into that beautiful stuff – it looks even better on a card! If you missed Monday’s Buy 3 Get 1 Free DSP Doorbuster, you won’t want to forget about the retiring Holiday Products (Home for Christmas DSP is one of them), or Friday’s doorbuster that includes the Christmas Tagables stamp set!

Christmas Tagables stamp set - only available while supplies last!

Scuff it Up!

I don’t think I’ve seen this technique yet, but it’s a winner for sure! Did you know that our Foil Paper is actually metal foil? That means that you can scuff it up using steel wool or, like I did today, with some sandpaper. It works great on the gold as it leaves silver underneath. I haven’t tried it on the silver or red paper yet, but you bet I will, and I’ll tell you all about it when I do!

Foil Sheets by Stampin' Up! The foil is actual paper-backed metal, so it can be treated like other metal surfaces.

Out with the old...

It hardly seems old, and I’m going to miss it a TON, but our Gold (and Silver) Cord Trim is on the retiring list. That means you can only get it through January 4th. So, if you love this versatile cording, now is the perfect time to stock up!

Hop Along to See Our Favorite Things!

2015junehop_badgeWelcome to the Pals Blog Hop for June.  This month we are excited to show off new Stampin’ Up! products from the just released 2015 – 2016 annual catalog.  We hope you find great inspiration from the projects.  Get your wish list ready!

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Amy Whelan at Amy’s Inklings, number 25 on the Pals Hop.  If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects.

One of my FAVORITE things about the new Annual Catalog is all of the 15%-off BUNDLES! Did you know that there’s 35 of them throughout the catalog? The bundles are a must-have because they couple together the products that are designed to work together that you would have bought anyway. I mean, who buys a stamp set without the coordinating punch?! LOL!

Bundle of the Month: Today’s design features my Bundle of the Month – the Flower Shop stamp set and Pansy Punch. There are sooo many ways to use this set! Stop by throughout the month to see this bundle in action. If you buy the bundle from me, you’ll get exclusive project sheets and videos that give you a more in-depth look into the cards. Stop back tomorrow for more details!

Hidden Coloring: What makes this design pop – especially in person? The backs of the flowers are colored in the shades of orange. When the light creates the shadows, they look slightly colored on the Whisper White CS underneath. Cool trick, huh?

Crazy Color Combo – or not? How did I come up with Pumpkin Pie, Tangerine Tango, Tangelo Twist, Watermelon Wonder and Rich Razzleberry? Easy – my Color Coordinator! These five colors are all in a line 🙂 Pull out some Watermelon CS and pair it up with the oranges – you’ll be surprised at how orange it looks too!

Pals Blog Hop: Every Day is Earth Day

2015aprhop_badgeWelcome to the Pals Blog Hop for April where every day is Earth Day.  This month we are showcasing projects that use recycled, reused or other earth inspired elements and colors.  We hope you enjoy the Pals creative projects.

You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from just about anywhere – because I forgot to confirm my participation this month. (Whoopsies!)  If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects.

Every April for the last few years we’ve had this Earth Day theme for the blog hop. Each time, I’ve shared something different – from using leftovers from other projects to using packing materials as project pieces. This time around I thought I would focus on scraps! Yes, those lovely little pieces we save for “just in case some day I might need a teeny tiny piece of that exact spot of DSP for a project”…. Over the years I’ve become less of a hoarder of paper scraps. They have to be useable. But, with some of our tiny punches, you could just about use any scrap. Still, I limit myself to no smaller than 1” square, or long, useable strips. Even then, lots of scraps go in my recycle bin. But, for those that make it back into my scrap folders – here’s one of many ideas on how they can transform into a great card design!

By Nicole Watt for the April 2015 Pals Blog Hop; A Dozen Thoughts, Back to Black DSP; For more details, click through to my blog! @PMRetreat #stampinup #scraps #earthday

Can you see all the scrappy possibilities?

Maven’s Mastery Tips

Organize your Scraps: Do you keep your scraps in one big box? That can make it really difficult to find those little treasures when you need them! Instead, I keep mine organized and filed with full sheets of the color/design. I use manilla pocket envelopes to keep them all contained 🙂

Treasures are Everywhere! Like that paperclip and the huge brad? They were leftover embellishments from the June 2014 Paper Pumpkin kit!

Take your pick for the next stop – I’m not in the lineup this month, so anywhere you start will get you through the rest of the projects!  Thanks for visiting; I hope to see you on next month’s Pals Hop!
