On the CASE: A Big Thank You

This is seriously the perfect thank you for anyone!

For today’s CASE, I dove back into the Annual Catalog to find the perfect all-purpose thank you design. And I found it in A Big Thank You. If you need a masculine thank you, follow today’s directions to a “T”. Or, change up the colors to create a design that’s just right for the recipient! If you have a Stamparatus, you’ll even get to try out a fun technique – the “step-down”.

For On the CASE with Ann & Nicole (October 2018 - A Big Thank You - 2018-19 Annual Catalog). Featuring, A Big Thank You stamp set, Thank You Thinlit die, Stamparatus. Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps:  A Big Thank You Photopolymer Bundle [148404]
Paper: 8″ x 4 3/4″  Whisper White Thick Cardstock [140272], 4″ x 4 3/4″ – Crumb Cake Card Stock [120953], 3 3/4″ x 4 1/2″, and small scrap – Whisper White Card Stock [100730], 3″ x 3 1/2″ – Night Of Navy Card Stock [100867]
Inks:  Pool Party Classic Stampin’ Pad [147107], Pear Pizzazz Classic Stampin’ Pad [147104], Mango Melody Classic Stampin’ Pad [147093], Night Of Navy Classic Stampin’ Pad [147110]
Accessories: Twine Baker’s Whisper White [124262]
Other:  Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets [144106], Precision Base Plate [139684], Big Shot [143263]

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

  1. Score your card base at 4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder. Adhere the Crumb Cake panel to the base. Set aside.
  2. Adhere the multipurpose adhesive sheet to the Night of Navy panel. Diecut the “Thank You” sentiment. Use the Precision Base Plate for best results.
  3. Set up the lines image on the Stamparatus. Be sure to have the plate aligned to the right so you can “step-down” the notches.
  4. Stamp in Pool Party first. Move the Stamparatus plate down one notch and stamp again. Repeat this for a total of four lines.
  5. Clean the stamp and align it just below the first Pool Party line. Re-adhere to the Stamparatus plate and repeat the step-down process in Pear Pizzazz.
  6. Repeat the step-down process one last time, this time with Mango Melody.

***Nit-picky details: I left my piece of cardstock slightly larger than the finished size so I could keep a magnet in place the whole time. After I was finished stamping, I cut it down to the proper size.

  1. Adhere the finished panel to the card base.
  2. Adhere the diecut sentiment to the card base.
  3. Stamp out the rest of the sentiment on a scrap of Whisper White. Snip out the words.
  4. Pop up the sentiment using a small piece of Foam Strips.
  5. Add a Whisper White Baker’s Twine bow.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – There is a bit of technique to this card – it’s not just a stamp & stick! I was grateful that I have a Stamparatus, because it made quick work out of the striped background pattern. This “step-down” technique is definitely a fun one to try! I love that the colors in this card are totally interchangeable. You can use any color set you have on hand – not just the colors from the CASE. Go monochrome, bright, neutral or regal – any combo will work! The diecut and simple snipped sentiment really help to make the stamped background shine.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – There were a few different paper sizes that I had a bit of trouble deciphering, but I figured it out, and the measurements provided in the post are accurate (not necessarily my pictures…). So, I basically did the hard part for you! I really love the idea of using watercolor pencils and blender pens for this project as it’s a nice introduction to that kind of “watercoloring”. Since you’re not using the Blender Pen to blend, but to smooth out the pencil lines, it’s easy to get the hang of how a blender pen works, without ending up scrubbing the paper off into little pills. There’s the added bonus of white-on-crumb cake which is a stunning look no matter what, so, for the beginner stamper, this project is a huge boost to confidence. A “wow” look, with a “wow, that was easy!” feeling.

PS: After closer inspection, there is a swipe of the Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blend across the sentiment in the Stampin’ Up! sample. I did not do this step in my version. It’s totally optional…

On the CASE: Wishing You Well

Looking for simple & easy for the holidays and beyond?

Look no further! For today’s On the CASE, I dove into a stamp set who’s samples caught my eye on my first flip through the Holiday Catalog. Did you know that the Holiday Catalog has more than just holiday-themed stamps? It’s true, this set does have a seasonal greeting, but it’s also good all year ’round with some lovely well wishes. Say hello to Wishing You Well!

I love that this set is one of the new “DistINKtive” stamps, giving the images instant depth and a 3-D feel with just one color ink. I also love that the samples are so simple, it would literally take less than five minutes to make a card if you needed to send off a sympathy or get-well card ASAP. OR, if you want to get piles of holiday cards done in a weekend, or a day, this design is for you!

What’s easier, is that you can order everything you need for these cards with just ONE item number – 150096. This is fabulous – especially if you’re just getting started with stamping and need some basic supplies, like an acrylic block and ink pads.

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

I’m doing a 2-for-1 today! These cards were so simple, you’re getting the step-by-step for both of them!

JUST A NOTE CARD:

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Stamp the bouquet image in Granny Apple Green. Use your Stamparatus if you want. This will make it easier if you’re going to do multiples.
  3. Stamp the flower image twice (without re-inking so some flowers are lighter) in Tranquil Tide.
  4. Stamp the sentiment in Tranquil Tide.
  5. Add Gold Metallic Thread loops behind the sentiment. Adhere with glue dots.
  6. Trim the sentiment to length and adhere to stamped panel with glue dots for just a little pop-up.
  7. Adhere the finished panel to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

SEASON’S GREETINGS CARD

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. You can set up the images on your Stamparatus if you plan on doing multiples. Use both sides of one plate, and even use the top and side of the base so you can fit all of the stamps on one plate!
  3. Stamp the wreath in Granny Apple Green.
  4. Stamp the Bow and sentiment in Tranquil Tide.
  5. Add gold metallic thread swirls behind the stamped panel.
  6. Adhere the finished panel to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 1 out of 5 – These are total entry-level cards that are truly beautiful! If you, or someone you know, are just getting started with stamping, you can’t go wrong with these designs. So get a few people together and have fun exploring the joy of stamps, paper and ink! With the supplies in the bundle (see the supplies list below), you can make 40 cards! WOW!!!

On the CASE: Perennial Birthday

I found a chameleon in today’s CASE!

Today’s CASE file caught my eye almost instantly. I was so glad that the Perennial Birthday stamp set carried over as I’d only used it with the kit (retired) that accompanied it last year. As I started working the project, I realized that you could pair this with the Color Coordinator and come up with just about any color combination to change it up how you like! Pair it with a different piece of vellum, ink the ribbon to match and, voilá, you have a design customized to its recipient! Let’s take a quick look at my finished project and the SU sample, then dive into the details.

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps : Perennial Birthday Clear-Mount Stamp Set [145760]
Ink : Bermuda Bay Classic Stampin’ Pad [147096], Flirty Flamingo Classic Stampin’ Pad [147052] , Mango Melody Classic Stampin’ Pad [147093] , Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad [132708] , Versamark Pad [102283]
Card Stock : 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ Whisper White Thick Cardstock [140272] , 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Bermuda Bay Card Stock [131197], 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Graceful Glass Designer Vellum [146344], 3″ x 4 3/4″ & scrap Whisper White Card Stock [100730] , 7/8″ x 3 3/4″ Basic Black Card Stock [121045]
Accessories : White Stampin’ Emboss Powder [109132],  Whisper White 1/8″ Sheer Ribbon [144172]
Tools : Sponge Daubers [133773] , Heat Tool [129053] , Embossing Buddy [103083] , Paper Snips Scissors [103579]

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Start by adding Flirty Flamingo ink to the sheer Whisper White ribbon. Add ink to create desired depth of color. Set aside to dry. You may want to do this step the night before so the ribbon can dry, or use the Heat Tool to carefully dry the ribbon.
  3. Adhere the Coastal Cabana and Graceful Glass panels to the card base. When adhering the vellum, only add SNAIL or Tombow Multi to the center – leave approx 1/2″ – 3/4″ from each edge.
  4. Stamp the birthday sentiment in Versamark on Basic Black CS. Emboss with Whisper White embossing powder. Don’t forget to use your Embossing Buddy to keep stray powder from sticking!
  5. Stamp the “wishing you” sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black on Whisper White CS. Cut out the words Wishing and You. Discard the rest.
  1. Stamp the background in stages. I followed the sample image exactly, but you can stamp however you want to create a unique background! This sample uses Bermuda Bay, Mango Melody and Flirty Flamingo inks.
  2. Add a strip of the dyed ribbon across – about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom.
  1. Adhere the floral panel to the card base using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  2. Add the Happy Birthday and Wishing You sentiments as shown.
  3. Add a bow to the left using a Mini Glue Dot to affix.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 3 out of 5 – I thoroughly enjoyed creating this card! Why the Level 3 rating? There’s lots of intermediate crafting going on – embossing, creating your own background, dyeing ribbon and working with vellum. Any one of those steps might leave a novice scratching their head in confusion, or redoing a step a few times to get it just right. This is the perfect step-up project for someone looking to move on from their basic stamping skills! So, don’t be scared – give it a try! For an even more advanced project, use this sample as a guide and come up with your own color combinations for a completely unique look!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Colorful Seasons Photopolymer Stamp Set [143726]

Ink: Balmy Blue Classic Stampin’ Pad [147105], Flirty Flamingo Classic Stampin’ Pad [147052], Soft Suede Classic Stampin’ Pad [147115], Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad [132708]

Card Stock: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Whisper White Thick Cardstock [140272],  4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Crumb Cake Card Stock [120953], 3/4″ x 5 1/2″ Soft Suede Card Stock [115318], 3 3/4″ x 5″ Watercolor Paper [122959], scraps Whisper White  Card Stock [100730], 2″ x 2″ x 3 1/2″ Vellum Card Stock [101856]

Accessories: Linen Thread [104199] (approx 24″), Share What You Love Artisan Pearls [146927]

Tools: Big Shot [143263], Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies [143751], Stamparatus [146276], Aqua Painters [103954]

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder. Adhere Crumb Cake layer. Set aside
  2. Apply a watercolor wash to the watercolor paper panel using Balmy Blue ink and an Aquapainter. Set aside to dry.
  3. Add two turns of linen thread to the Soft Suede cs. Add a third piece and tie a bow.
  4. Adhere the finished Soft Suede element to the card base.
  1. Stamp the flowers (Flirty Flamingo) and stamens (Soft Suede) on a scrap of whisper white. *TIP: Each flower and stamen stamp has an “arrow” to indicate how they match up. Always stamp the arrows in the same direction. To see them more easily, add a dot of color with a Sharpie marker (see picture).
  2. Diecut the flowers. *TIP: Mark the dies with a dot to match up with the “arrows” from the stamps. Then you won’t have to guess if your dies are going the right way! (see picture).
  3. Stamp the branches (Soft Suede) and flowers (Flirty Flamingo) on the watercolor panel. *TIP: A Stamparatus is key here! You can re-stamp as many times as you need to get a clear, rich image. That can be difficult to do on Watercolor Paper, so it might take 3-4 re-stamps. Make sure your stamp pad is juicy!
  1. Stamp the sentiment on vellum. Allow drying time. *TIP: Use a heat tool on the low setting to speed up drying, otherwise it could take a while!
  2. Trim sentiment to the proper height (2″). Rip off the right edge to create the torn look. Adhere to the watercolor panel. Trim the excess from the left edge. *TIP: Use Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive on the left and right of the sentiment. Once adhered, rub over the adhesive with your fingertips to help blend in the adhesive. Once dry it will be invisible!
  3. Adhere the watercolor panel to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  4. Adhere the diecut flowers using Mini Glue Dots.
  5. Adhere three Artisan Pearls.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – Though stunning, this card is not HARD! The key word is patience! Take time with the watercolor wash. Take time to stamp on the watercolor paper. Take time to stamp on the vellum and let it all dry! This card could seriously be a swap card where making multiples is easy breezy. Give it a try!

We’ll be On the CASE again in 2 weeks! But, until then…
