Playin' Hooky for PMDC-052

Today I’m sharing a great digital design that I put together for our newest Pixel Maven DigiChallenge (PMDC-052):

Sometimes I’m in the mood for a sketch so I don’t have to think about the design, but other times I prefer color challenges so I don’t have to decide on a palette. AND, sometimes, the best of both worlds – a sketch and color challenge combined is the perfect thing to get my creativity flowing!

For this week, I used a graphic from the Iowa State Fair to help me with colors — they’re all inspired by the image that’s at the top of my design.

Online Images: I know I’m sharing this design with you on my blog, but I’m not selling it – it’s a personal page from my scrapbook so I don’t feel like I’m infringing on any copyright. So, my tip here is: when working with digital designs, don’t be afraid to go out to the interwebz and find graphics from the event! What better way to pull the memories together than to add in some professional graphics that you saw all around the event.

Color Picker: In MDS, like other design tools, you’re not relegated to just a fixed color palette. When you go to select colors to fill in stamps, try going to the Color Picker tool instead, where you can put your cursor over the current design and pick out a color that’s already in use on the page. It’s perfect for picking out a coordinating color from a photo or, in this case, from the fair graphic.

Journal-phobia: I totally have a phobia of journaling. So here’s my new approach: Just write a sentence or two. There’s no reason for you to go to epic lengths to talk about an event. Just capture the memory!

Have you played in a challenge lately? You really should give one a try! Even though the DigiChallenge is no longer up and running there’s all sorts of great ones out there – like Pals Paper Arts!

PMDC-052: Sketch Challenge

Welcome to a new PMDC challenge! PMDC-052 is a sketch challenge with lots of possibilities…

The DT definitely had their own thoughts on where to go with this detailed sketch. I love that we can go with any color scheme – that always changes up the whole look!

Let’s review the rules!

Rules:

  1. This is primarily a digital design challenge, but we don’t discriminate, so if you’re more comfortable with traditional paper, or a hybrid design, we welcome that too! Design team members use Stampin’ Up! products including My Digital Studio software and Stampin’ Up! digital downloads and other Stampin’ Up! products, but you’re more than welcome to use your choice of design software and papercrafting stamps and elements.
  2. Use the challenge sketches or color palettes to create your choice of scrapbook pages, cards, tags… then upload them to the list (below).
  3. Note, that for sketch challenges the sketches will usually be displayed as 4.25×5.5, but you can scale those up to 8.5×11 8×8 or 12×12, etc.
  4. The only other rule is to have fun and stretch those creative muscles!

Submission specifics:

  • Submissions close at Midnight on the second MONDAY of a challenge period, giving you 11 days to create and submit your entry. This challenge will end at midnight on MONDAY, September 8th.
  • Enter as many times as you like.  When uploading with the Linky Lists tool, make sure you put your name in the caption/title area (last name not necessary), and provide an email address. Email addresses will not be published, but are sometimes used to notify challenge winners. In order to enter more than once, the URL needs to be unique, so link directly to the individual blog post, or individual picture if you’re using SplitCoast. If you have an open Facebook page (like a business page) you can use that URL, or you can even upload pictures to a PINTEREST board and link to the picture!
  • THREE design winners will be selected – all by the Design Team.
  • Winners will be notified via blog post the WEDNESDAY after the challenge closes.
  • Winners earn the right to display a custom Pixel Maven’s DigiChallenge Badge and their designs will be uploaded to this Pinterest Board!
  • Add our players badge to your blog (grab the code over on the right), and don’t forget to tell all your friends to play along!

So, what are you waiting for? Time to Get Your Pixel… and Paper On!

Pixel Maven DigiChallenge Winners: PMDC-051

Happy Hump Day! We’ve reached the end of another DigiChallenge, and time to talk winners. Sad to say that there was only one player this time around – maybe we’re all just too busy with the new school year? Well, this school bus driver and Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator surely had her A-game on for her design! It truly is an A+++++++!

Way to go Anita – don’t forget to pick up the badge code to display on your blog! (It’s over there on the right…)

We hope to see more players for the next challenge starting on Friday – it’s a new sketch!

Gone Girly BFF for PMDC-051

Today starts a new color challenge for Pixel Maven’s DigiChallenge. Even though we started out that way, we just love challenges and we want you to participate digi, hybrid or traditional!

Here’s the color combo:
