I could just squish these cuties!

I didn’t have anything with a hedgehog in my stash. What a great excuse to get another stamp set! LOL! There were plenty to pick from on Scrapbook.com, but I settled on the Smile All Day stamp set from Penny Black. Brian needed a Mother’s Day card for his mom, so that’s where this one would go…

After stamping the image in Scrapbook.com Hybrid Black, I masked the characters and blended in the background with Distress Oxides. The rest was all coloring! I started with a base of Copic markers and then added in the fine detail with my Polychromos pencils. I went for a loose pencil job to make it look more like fur.

Today’s video is a speed coloring video so you can enjoy the coloring process take shape. It’s quite soothing to watch these kinds of videos, so I’m sure this isn’t the last one you’ll see from me!

Don’t forget to leave a comment at the end of the post to qualify for my monthly giveaway!

Time to hop along!

Don’t forget to hop along to see all of our hedgehog-themed designs. Oh, and you will get bonus entries for commenting on each channel in this hop (listed below). You have one week (until May 21, 2019) to enter. Creating a blog post was not a requirement for the hop, so it’s best to hop over to YouTube now, leave a comment for me and hop along!

Just a note that the video hop isn’t scheduled until 9AM central, so you may have to come back and visit other videos later…

AECP: Level 3 Final – a Live Class

This is IT!
Strap in, people! This post is LOOONNGG and filled with lots of pics. We’re taking a look into Friday’s Altenew Educator Level 3 Final Challenge – my live class, and it was a good one!

AECP: A Floral Card for Any Occasion

Floral cards are great for any occasion.
I love it when I can craft up a design that will accommodate any sentiment. I find that lots of floral designs fit that category.

AECP: Clean & Simple Galentines

Altenew Educator Certification Program Participant Badge

As an adult, how many Valentine’s to you make?

Up until this year, my answer would have been ONE. One for my one and only sweetheart. (If you missed the card I created for him, check it out here.) But, there were plenty of years that I didn’t have a beau to share the holiday with, so I would hang out with my gal pals. Today, even though we’re all over the U.S., I thought I’d let them know that they have a place in my heart too. So, I put together a pile of fun CAS cards for all of my GALentines!

My inspiration for these sweet cards was a class I just finished for my Altenew Educator Certification Program – Clean & Simple Boutique Cards.

Class #2: Clean & Simple Boutique Cards

In the class, instructor Jennifer Rasa shares 6 different lessons featuring card design ideas inspired by a visit to the National Stationery Show. The theme of the class is “less is more”. Well – if you know my design style, you’ll know that I steer away from CAS and one-layer cards because I just can’t seem to create an end product that I like. I feel like there should always be a layer, or an embellishment. I knew this class would be a tough one for me. So, I thought I’d get it done sooner rather than later!

My Project

I am truly surprised at how well this design turned out. Perhaps it was because I was inspired by the recipients – some of my favorite gal pals! I know they’re going to love receiving the happy mail for Heart Day.

The Technique & Design

In one of the lessons, Jennifer talks about adding metallic elements in the form of foiling or heat embossing. I knew this would be my key to success. Adding some metallic embossing would be the perfect trade off for going sans-embellishments or layers. Then, I decided on the Mega Greetings 3 stamp set so I could add in another great technique – ombre inking. I did this both with the large greeting, and with the background words. Those smaller words came from Sketchy Floral. I stamped those in three rows, with three shades of pink to match the ombre in the large image. Then, I added in some gold embossing and a little flag with the rest of the sentiment, and I was done! I was able to whip up five of these in no time!

Don’t forget to leave a comment at the end of the post to qualify for my monthly giveaway!

Crafter’s Toolbox Video

Of course, a video is way better than reading through instructions, so here’s the official Crafter’s Toolbox video showing two fantastic techniques I used for this design!

2 down, 8 to go!

I’m on a roll! I plan on accomplishing two classes each week, so be on the lookout for my next submission on Saturday.

Inks: Unicorn White (Hero), Versafine Clair Nocturne (Tsukineko), Distress Inks (Ranger/Tim Holtz) – Chipped Sapphire, Mermaid Lagoon, Seedless Preserve, Black Soot, Aged Mahogany, Picked Raspberry. White Gouache (Windsor &Newton)
Accessories: none
Other: Heat Tool (Hero Arts), Big Shot (Sizzix), Stamp Positioner (Tonic/Tim Holtz) and/or acrylic blocks, Anti-static powder bag (Ranger), Super Fine White embossing powder (Ranger), Upon a Star dies (Lawn Fawn), Starry Skies dies (Lawn Fawn), Simple Grassy Hillside edgelits (Lawn Fawn), Distress Blender (Ranger/Tim Holtz), Blender Pen (Tombow)

Party Plan

(your step-by-step guide to CASE-ing this design)

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″ and set aside. Tack down the 80# piece of Solar White to a hard board or piece of cardboard using painter’s tape. This will keep the panel still while we blend.
  2. Add an evenly blended layer of Mermaid Lagoon ink to the cardstock.
  3. Then, blend Chipped Sapphire working from the outer edges towards the center, leaving the center lighter than the edges.
  4. Blend with Seedless Preserve next. This will give the effect of twilight.
  5. Lastly, blend again from the outside edges with Black Soot – it’s finally time for a starry sky!
  1. Spritz the panel with water to activate the Distress Ink and leave water spots for depth.
  2. Then, mix some white gouache with a bit of water on an acrylic block. Flick it on to the panel with a paint brush.
  3. Allow the gouache to dry and then remove the panel from the hard board and trim to 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
  4. Set up the sentiment on a stamp positioner or acrylic block and stamp in Unicorn White, then heat emboss with Superfine White.
  1. Diecut the stars from the Starry Skies die set around the left side of the sentiment.
  2. Flip the panel over and diecut the stars from the back so they are a mirror image of the already cut image.
  3. Add tear tape around the edges of the glimmer paper and firmly attach to the back of the sentiment panel.
  4. Adhere the finished panel to the card base.
  1. Stamp the larger animal stamps in Versafine Clair Nocturne. Heat set to dry.
  2. Blend a light layer of Black Soot Distress Ink over the characters. This will make them look like they’re in the dark!
  3. Add highlights of Aged Mahogany with a blender pen to the left side of the fox. Add Picked Raspberry to the rabbit’s nose.
  4. Use watered-down white gouache to add highlights to the bunny’s ears, face and tail, and the fox’s tail and ear points. It will start off more white and blend into the dark. Add another coat if necessary.
  1. Diecut the finished characters.
  2. Diecut two sections grass in Black Licorice.
  3. Adhere the more arced piece of grass to the card base – offset so the hill peaks to the left.
  4. Add the two characters to the right so they peek over the grass.
  5. Add the more flat piece of grass to the card, over the characters.
  6. Trim any excess grass from around the card edges.

Now it’s your turn to link up!

Now that you’re all inspired, what will you create? The clock is ticking away for #FF0027 and we want to see your design. Link up your project over at Festive Friday and you might just be named a Festive Fave!

Festive Friday: Easy Valentine Treat

Yippee Skippee!! Are you ready for a new Papercrafting Challenge? Say HELLO to Festive Friday!

A few months ago, fellow Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators, Ann Schach and Beth McCullough and I started brainstorming on a new, innovative papercrafting challenge. We didn’t want it to be just like all the others. What could get people really interested in playing along week after week?

We knew it depended on two things. First, a unique challenge; Not just colors, or inspiration photos, or sketches — there’s plenty of those kinds of challenges. Second, a unique rewards system; Not just weekly picks and guest designers, but a way for everyone who participates to qualify for “something”.

A Unique Challenge:

Festive Friday is built around festivities and holiday and “days”. Basically, any “special” event. It could be traditional “holidays” like Valentine’s Day, or a festivity like birthdays or a fun “Day” like National Ice Cream Day. To make sure everyone can participate, there’s a second component of a design element (sequins, glitter, ribbon, specific shapes, etc). The challenge is an “And/Or” challenge, so participants can use the festivity and the element, OR just one of the two (the festivity, or the element). Don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day? Just use the sequins part…. make sense?

Festive Friday challenges go live the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, and run for 11 days! I hope to see you play along!

Our first challenge is Valentine’s Day and/or Sequins

Play along at the Festive Friday Challenge - Earn Fest Points for free stuff! Find us @festivefridaychallenge or festivefridaychallenge.com. New challenges every 2nd and 4th Friday!

My project is a simple heart treat holder! I was able to put 20 of these together in less than an hour! I opted for both of the elements – Valentine’s Day and Sequins, using both the new DTIEF Sequins folder, and mini sequins trim.

As I was putting this project together, and realized how easy it is, it dawned on me that it’s a great treat holder for lots of different events – especially baby showers and weddings! Just change up the colors to match your event and voila!

Product Spotlight: Narrow Notecards

Looking for a fun, fresh notecard size to accompany gifts and treats, or just great on their own? It’s time to try narrow notecards!

I’ve always enjoyed the 3x3 “love note” format for all sorts of card designs. They’re just the perfect size to accompany gifts, or to hide in someone’s lunch, or pocket to discover later! That’s why I was excited to see this new size in the Occasions Catalog. They’re hiding out on the bottom of page 19 – the Narrow Note Cards & Envelopes.

Narrow Note Cards & Envelopes (145583), pkg of 20 – $8.00

Just like our regular Notecards & Envelopes, they come in a package of 20. The envelopes are so cute too! They open on the short end — so trendy!

Today’s design was inspired by a new Tic Tac Toe Challenge. Team O is back with some fantastic inspiration! Let’s take a look at the board and my design. I’m still working with the Painted With Love product suite, and went for the bottom row: Sparkle, Love, Free. I played on “free” with a card “free from sentiment”! Because it’s sans-words, this notecard is perfect for Valentine’s Day, or any day! And, at such a small size, it comes together in a jiffy!
