2 Minutes to Finish (2M2F) – Merry Little Christmas

It’s time again for another Tic Tac Toe Challenge! It never ceases to amaze me how diverse the Design Team projects end up, and how diverse the entries are. If you’re looking for a great source of inspiration, this challenge is it for sure!

If you stopped by yesterday, you know that I’m exploring the Merry Little Christmas Memories & More card pack for the next few weeks. I’m really enjoying all of the traditional sentiments and song lyrics on the cards, as well as the coordinating patterns an designs. This card pack coordinates with the rest of the Merry Little Christmas suite, so it pairs up perfectly with all of the stamp sets, papers and embellishments.

So, how would I match up these memory cards up with the new Tic Tac Toe challenge? Let’s take a quick look at the board:

Play along at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge - Inspiring you 8-ways each week! Find us @tttchallenge or tictactoechallenge.com. New challenges every Thursday!

I instantly honed in on the first column: Vibrant, Circle, Stripes – as I wanted to use the unique color combo of Lemon Lime Twist and Old Olive. It sure is vibrant!

For the Tic Tac Toe Challenge (#TTTC022). Featuring: Merry Little Christmas Memories & More, Merry Music Specialty DSP, Quilt Top TIEF. For more details including a 2 Minutes to Finish video, click through. #pmretreat #stampinup #christmas #2minutes2finish #handstamped

Look, ma! No Stamping!! I love using the Memories & More card packs to create quick and stunning cards! These beauties come together in just a few minutes, every time. So, that’s why I’m sharing another 2 Minutes to Finish video today. Though I won’t be showing this exact card (there’s only one of the silver acetate sentiments in the pack), I’ve got another quick idea using the suite – so, it’s really a 2-fer!

How about that? Here’s some more tips to make the challenge card a success!

  • I embossed the kraft cardstock with the Quilt Top TIEF. To make the pattern pop (see all those circles?), I lightly swiped the Whisper White Craft Ink across the embossed cardstock. Don’t go for even coverage – just hints here and there are enough!
  • Adhere the foil acetate pieces with Tombo Multi or Tear & Tape. Just put the adhesive behind the silver parts and you’ll never see it!

For the card in the video:

  • It’s worth the extra time to amp up the design by covering the sentiment letters with Fine Tip Glue. That little bit of shine and dimension is a worthy return on investment!

On the CASE: Merry Memories & More

Yippee!! We’re back! Ann and I are On the CASE with two new projects from Stampin’ Up! catalogs. We’re feelin’ kinda festive, so join us as we dive into the mystery.

I’ve had the Merry Little Christmas Memories & More cards for a few weeks now, and they’ve just been calling my name! There’s a reason we call them Memories & More. You can do more than pocket scrapbook with these beauties! It’s my goal to work through the entire pack and make oodles of holiday cards for this year!

Of course, when you don’t know where to start, Stampin’ Up! catalogs are always a great source of inspiration. That’s why Ann and I started this series. The samples are always amazing, but sometimes difficult to figure out. So, we sleuth our way through the design and share the measurements, materials and techniques with you!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Carols of Christmas (bundle)
Paper: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″), Kraft Cardstock (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″), Whisper White Cardstock (scrap), Merry Music Specialty DSP (2 1/2″ x 5 1/4″), Merry Little Christmas Memories & More 4x6 & 3x4 cards (as shown), Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper (2 1/2″ x 4″)
Inks: Basic Black Archival Ink, Whisper White Craft Ink
Accessories: Whisper White Baker’s Twine, Year of Cheer Embellishments
Other: Big Shot, Card Front Builder Thinlits dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Adhere the Kraft panel to the card base.
**NOTE: The Memories & More cards use Kraft, not Crumb Cake. There is a color difference! There is Kraft cardstock in the 12x12 Merry Little Christmas cardstock pack, but if you don’t have it Crumb Cake is an ok substitute.
  3. Mask off the circle (it’s approximately 2 1/2″) and stamp the snowflake images in Whisper White craft ink. Allow a little time for drying.
  4. Trim the Memories & More 4x6 card down to 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″. Be sure to trim evenly from all sides so the circle stays centered. Flag the bottom of the panel.
  5. Trim a flag end on the Merry Music DSP piece. Affix to the card base.
  1. Add three turns of Whisper White Baker’s Twine to the top of the memory card panel. Add a bow and the Year of Cheer embellishment (use gold or silver!)
  2. Affix the memory card to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  3. Stamp the deer on Whisper White Cardstock.
  4. Diecut the two trees from the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper. and Diecut the deer.
  5. Affix the trees as shown. Add the deer using a Mini Stampin’ Dimensional.
  6. Trim the sentiment from the Memories & More card. Flag the right end. Affix to card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – As usual, there’s a number of steps, but this time, none too difficult. It took me longest to figure out the size of the Memories & More card. But, now that I’ve figured that out for you, it’s simple! This is the perfect card to showcase how the Memories & More line coordinates with other products in the catalog, and that they’re more versatile than just memory keeping!

We hope our projects today inspired you to try CASE-ing the catalog too! We’re “on the case”, looking for the hashtag #SUontheCASE on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Google+ & Pinterest) and if we find one of your projects, we’ll share it, like it, repost it – we’ll do it all!

We’ll be On the CASE again in 2 weeks!

2 Minutes to Finish (2M2F) – Santa’s Sleigh

On the lookout for a quick holiday card this year? There’s nothing quicker than a 2 Minutes to Finish design!

Sometimes you just need a few extra cards to send out during the holidays, or perhaps just something quick and simple to do all of them (sending 100 you say?) That means that sometimes stamping is just too much!  I know it sounds crazy, but it’s totally possible. And, we’ll use the latest Tic Tac Toe Challenge board to get started.

Play along at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge - Inspiring you 8-ways each week! Find us @tttchallenge or tictactoechallenge.com. New challenges every Thursday!

There were so many great options from this week’s board! But, to keep it simple and quick, I went with the bottom row – Sparkle, No Sentiment, Die Cut.

For the Tic Tac Toe Challenge (#TTTC018). Featuring: Santa's Sleigh stamp set, Santa's Sleigh Thinlits dies, Stitched Shapes Framelits. For more details and a video to make this design, click through. #pmretreat #stampinup #holidays #deer #reindeer #nosentiment #handstamped

A lot of what I share here, and the cards I make for my classes usually have quite a few steps, and are often “wow” cards. BUT, there’s always a need for that quick and simple card that you can put together in just a few minutes, but that still looks clean and polished (and not rushed).

2 Minutes to Finish is a video series that dials all of that back and gets you creating in just a few minutes. The goal is to create a card in 2-3 minutes that has a nice, professional look, but that doesn’t take any time at all! Let’s check out today’s video!

Two down, 98 to go! With this design, I’ll be done well before Thanksgiving! (the American one, not the Canadian one!!)

I hope you enjoyed my Tic Tac Toe Challenge inspiration today, and that you play along with us this week!

On the CASE: Santa’s Sleigh

Welcome to another On the CASE investigation! Ann and I are on the CASE, working our way through the project samples you see in Stampin’ Up! catalogs. This week, we’re full-on Holiday – all from the Annual Catalog. So, time to don your Sherlock hat and follow along as we sleuth through these splendid samples!

I headed to a carryover from last year’s Holiday catalog – Santa’s Sleigh, because I was so glad to see this set for another year. There’s so many fun ways to use it, and isn’t that little teddy bear just so cute? He doesn’t make an appearance in this week’s CASE, but he’ll be in some other projects I have planned for the next few weeks. Ann is investigating a vintage design with some modern twists. Be sure to check it out after you read through my CASE file!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Santa’s Sleigh
Paper: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″), Cherry Cobbler Cardstock (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″), Be Merry DSP (1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″), Window Sheet (3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″), scraps of Cherry Cobbler, Smoky Slate & Whisper White
Inks: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Gray
Accessories: Metallics Sequin Assortment, 3/8″ Metallic Edge Ribbon, Rhinestone Basics Jewels
Other: Big Shot, Santa’s Sleigh Thinlits, Circle Collection Framelits
Adhesives: Foam Strips, Tear & Tape

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

I created this week’s CASE in two parts. The background, then the sentiment and deer.

BACKGROUND

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Stamp three trees on the card base. I used Basic Gray, stamped off once to get a lighter color.
  3. Adhere the DSP strip to the bottom of the Cherry Cobbler panel. Diecut a circle using the largest circle from the Layered Circle Framelits.
  4. Stamp stars randomly on the Cherry Cobbler portion of the panel, using Cherry Cobbler ink.
  1. On the reverse side, adhere the Window Sheet over the hole. Border the window with Foam Adhesive Strips. Use extra strips, or Stampin’ Dimensionals elsewhere on the back.
  2. Adhere Tear & Tape across the front of the panel where the DSP meets the Cherry Cobbler.
  3. Adhere one piece of ribbon on each side of the window opening.  Once adhered, use the two ends to tie a bow!
  1. Add a generous pile of Metallics Sequin Assortment to the card base – in the center where the window will end up.
  2. Remove all the backing from the prepared window panel and carefully line it up to the card base and adhere. The shaker part is done!
  3. Stamp the following images:
    – Deer in Basic Gray on Smoky Slate cardstock
    – Sentiment in Basic Gray on Whisper White cardstock
    – Bow in Cherry Cobbler on Cherry Cobbler cardstock
  4. DIecut the bow and deer. Cut the sentiment down to 1/4″ tall. Freehand cut the flag ends with paper snips.
  5. Affix bow to deer, add a rhinestone! Affix the final deer and sentiment to card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – This card is a cutie-patootie! And, though it looks totally impressive, it can be completed relatively quickly. Break it down into steps and get it done in assembly-line fashion. What will take the longest is the bow – so, skip it and make a knot instead. Or, do a strip of ribbon all the way across, and add a separate bow with a glue dot. Either way would make that part easier!

On the CASE: Christmas Quilt

Ho ho ho! I have a gift for you today! Another On the CASE file complete – this time we’re into the Holiday Catalog, and I’m diving right into the Christmas Quilt suite!

One thing I really love about Stampin’ Up! is the coordination of all the colors – even better is the coordination of product suites. These are a collection of papers, stamps, dies, embellishments and other products that are all designed to work together flawlessly. The Christmas Quilt suite is one of those! The suite includes the following:

  • Christmas Quilt photopolymer stamp set & Quilt Builder Framelit Dies (buy as a bundle and save 10%)
  • Quilted Christmas 1/4″ ribbon
  • Quilted Christmas 6x6 Designer Series Paper
  • Stitched Felt Embellishments
  • Quilt Top Textured Impressions Embossing Folder
  • Quilted Christmas Cardstock pack

Add some coordinating inks and some Whisper White cardstock, and you can make just about everything on page 4 of the Holiday Catalog!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Christmas Quilt
Paper: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″), Garden Green Cardstock (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″), Whisper White Cardstock (2″ x 5 1/2″), Pool Party Cardstock (1/2″ x 2 1/2″), Quilted Christmas DSP – tree pattern & red small plaid pattern, small scrap of Real Red Cardstock
Inks: Garden Green, Pool Party, Real Red, Lemon Lime Twist
Accessories: Stitched Felt Embellishments
Other: Big Shot, Quilt Top TIEF, Quilt Builder Framelits, glue dots, Stampin’ Dimensionals

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

This time, I built the card from bottom layers to top layers, stamping, cutting & embossing along the way.

**programming note: I tried the Whisper White panel at 2 1/4″, but that was too long. If you follow the instructions and measurements, yours will turn out more like the catalog sample.

BASE & DSP PIECES

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Adhere the Garden Green cardstock panel.
  3. Emboss the 2″ Whisper White piece with the Quilt Top TIEF
  4. Adhere the quilted Whisper White piece, about 1/2″ up from the bottom. I preferred to add this piece with the bumps facing down, but you can do it either way!
  5. Fussy cut three trees from the tree patterned DSP.
  6. Trim off a strip (2 squares wide) of the red plaid patterned DSP.
  7. Adhere the small strip of red plaid DSP above the Whisper White, and adhere the tree cutouts as shown.

STAMPED TREES

  1. Stamp two tree images on Whisper White, using Garden Green ink.
  2. Stamp the inside tree image – on one tree use Lemon Lime Twist, on the other use Pool Party.
  3. Stamp the stitched border in Real red. Also stamp the tree base image in Real Red.
  4. Diecut the trees, tree base and a red star.

SENTIMENT & FINAL ASSEMBLY

  1. Use a Garden Green Stampin’ Write marker to color in just the word “merry” from the sentiment. Stamp on the piece of Pool Party.
  2. Clean the stamp, then color in the word “Christmas” and stamp.
  3. Stamp stitching across the bottom of the card on the Garden Green, using Garden Green ink. You don’t need to go all the way across since the sentiment will cover it. Just add a single stamp off to the right. It doesn’t need to look perfect.
  4. Pop up the sentiment with some Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  5. Add the two stamped trees as shown.
  6. Add the stamped tree base, Stitched Felt tree (use glue dots for best results), and star.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – Every time I pick a card to CASE I find that there’s tons of little steps. Again, it’s not difficult to do with the measurements and steps, so, in reality, this card could take just a few minutes.
