True or False: December is the fastest month

I don’t know about you, but I say TRUE! How can it already be 10 days to Christmas Eve? Then the following week we’re welcoming 2019! Yikes! I’m glad that the holiday cards went out in the mail a few weeks ago (thanks to some help from the husband), but I have a short list of people that I meant to send a card to, but they got left off the list. What to do?! I don’t have time to make cards to get them in the mail before Christmas, BUT, I do have time between Christmas and New Year’s to make up some New Year’s cards and get them in the mail just after the 1st.

How lucky that Festive Friday would be celebrating New Year’s this week! If you’re in the same predicament as me, hopefully our inspiration will help you out. We’re changing the challenge a bit. Instead of collecting points for prizes (which didn’t really catch on so well), the DT members will provide a tutorial post in the form of instructions and pictures, or a video. Yea! Instant CASE-worthy projects that you can Pin for reference!

Play along at the Festive Friday Challenge. DT members provide written or video instructions for their projects each challenge! Find us @festivefridaychallenge or festivefridaychallenge.com. New challenges every other Friday! #cardchallenge

Looking for ideas – here’s a few:

  • CASE one of the DT projects and add your own twist to our designs. Of course, if you blog about it, we would love for you to mention the Designer as your inspiration for your project.
  • Looking for something different? Make up a metallic stars or diamonds garland to decorate for your house party – that would surely count for this challenge.
  • Of course, anything glittery or shimmery will do – from rhinestones to sequins, glimmer paper, foil paper, metallic embossing, gilding, the list really does go on and on and on. Skip the “new year’s” part of the challenge and just give us that glitz!

Here’s my take:

For the Festive Friday Challenge #FF0023). Featuring: Lawn Fawn - Happy Happy Happy, Nuvo Gilding Flakes - Sunkissed Copper. #nicolewatt #pmretreat #newyears #copper #gilding #cleanandsimple

There are a few fun and exciting new (to me) things in this project, I can’t wait for you to see the Party Plan!

Don’t forget to leave a comment at the end of the post to qualify for my monthly giveaway!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

(Affiliate shopping links are listed at the end of the post)

Stamps: Happy, Happy, Happy (Lawn Fawn),
Paper: 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ – Solar White 110lb (Neenah), 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ Peach CS (Stampin’ Up!), 4″ x 5 1/4″ – Mermaid CS (Lawn Fawn), 4″ x 5 1/4″ – Black Licorice CS (Lawn Fawn)
Inks: Versamark (Tsukineko)
Accessories: Not So Heavy Metal Sequin Tin (28 Lilac Lane)
Other: Heat Tool, Big Shot, Stamp Positioner and/or acrylic blocks, Anti-static powder, Super Fine Copper Embossing Powder (Ranger), Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables (Lawn Fawn), Sunkissed Copper Gilding Flakes (Nuvo), 2-Way Glue Pen (Zig)

Party Plan

(your step-by-step guide to CASE-ing this design)

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Adhere the peach cardstock to the card base. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder. Set aside
  2. Diecut the black cardstock with the 2nd largest stitched rectangle die
  3. Stamp the “happy” sentiment in Versamark – use a stamp positioning tool or acrylic block. Be sure to use an anti-static bag or powder first so the embossing powder doesn’t stick all over! Heat emboss in copper.
  4. Then, stamp the individual letters for “New Year”, again, in Versamark. I opted for a wonky look, but you can line them up if you want. Heat emboss in copper.
  1. Then, on the aqua cardstock, apply 2-way glue around the edges. Allow the glue to dry to its tacky state.
  2. Apply Nuvo Gilding Flakes (I used copper), covering the glued edges. Rub the flakes on each other until the excess comes off. You’ll be left with a wonderful antique gilded edge. It’s supposed to look imperfect, and it’s oh, so, lovely!
  1. Adhere the black sentiment panel to the aqua panel,  then adhere the finished panel to the card base, making sure to keep even spacing on each layer.
  2. Add various size copper sequins around the sentiment.

Now it’s your turn to link up!

Now that you’re all inspired, what will you create? The clock is ticking away for #FF0023 and we want to see your design. Link up your project over at Festive Friday and you might just be named a Festive Fave!

For the Connie Can Crop Stockings Were Hung Holiday Blog Hop (December 2018) Featuring: Craftin' Desert Divas Stocking Owl Digital Stamp, Copcs, Lawn Fawn Happy Happy Happy stamps and dies. #nicolewatt #pmretreat #craftindesertdivas #lawnfawn #copic #christmas #happyholidays

I had lots of fun exploring Digi Stamps. It’s a fun blend of my digital design world, coloring therapy and crafting. I love that digis are generally super cheap, and that you can use them over and over. One big plus is that you can resize them as needed for different projects…. I could have enlarged this to a full 8.5″ x 11″ sheet and colored it for a fun framed project. Or, made it even smaller to fit a different project size.

You might be wondering if you need a special printer, like a laser printer, to print these out and use solvent-based markers like Copics. The answer is NO! I printed this on our HP all-in-one OfficeJet printer. I printed on Stampin’ Up! Whisper White cardstock. I’ll be looking for a new cardstock for Copic coloring as i didn’t like the way the ink bled outside the lines and how it dried a bit grainy (you can really see it in the owl’s face). But, for now, that’s what I have. But, back to the printing. The lines did not bleed at all, so, feel free to print with what you have and explore this fun medium!

I finished the design with some newly-acquired Lawn Fawn products – the Happy Happy Happy stamp set and dies, along with the Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables. The fun accents are complements of Stampin’ Up! Metallics Sequin Assortment and All Purpose Ink for Fantastix (Frost White & Vegas Gold).

Time to hop along!

Be sure to hop over to Wendy Bellino for another stocking-themed project. And don’t forget to subscribe and leave comments along the way to enter in our product giveaway!

On the CASE: Wishing You Well

Looking for simple & easy for the holidays and beyond?

Look no further! For today’s On the CASE, I dove into a stamp set who’s samples caught my eye on my first flip through the Holiday Catalog. Did you know that the Holiday Catalog has more than just holiday-themed stamps? It’s true, this set does have a seasonal greeting, but it’s also good all year ’round with some lovely well wishes. Say hello to Wishing You Well!

I love that this set is one of the new “DistINKtive” stamps, giving the images instant depth and a 3-D feel with just one color ink. I also love that the samples are so simple, it would literally take less than five minutes to make a card if you needed to send off a sympathy or get-well card ASAP. OR, if you want to get piles of holiday cards done in a weekend, or a day, this design is for you!

What’s easier, is that you can order everything you need for these cards with just ONE item number – 150096. This is fabulous – especially if you’re just getting started with stamping and need some basic supplies, like an acrylic block and ink pads.

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

I’m doing a 2-for-1 today! These cards were so simple, you’re getting the step-by-step for both of them!

JUST A NOTE CARD:

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Stamp the bouquet image in Granny Apple Green. Use your Stamparatus if you want. This will make it easier if you’re going to do multiples.
  3. Stamp the flower image twice (without re-inking so some flowers are lighter) in Tranquil Tide.
  4. Stamp the sentiment in Tranquil Tide.
  5. Add Gold Metallic Thread loops behind the sentiment. Adhere with glue dots.
  6. Trim the sentiment to length and adhere to stamped panel with glue dots for just a little pop-up.
  7. Adhere the finished panel to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

SEASON’S GREETINGS CARD

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. You can set up the images on your Stamparatus if you plan on doing multiples. Use both sides of one plate, and even use the top and side of the base so you can fit all of the stamps on one plate!
  3. Stamp the wreath in Granny Apple Green.
  4. Stamp the Bow and sentiment in Tranquil Tide.
  5. Add gold metallic thread swirls behind the stamped panel.
  6. Adhere the finished panel to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 1 out of 5 – These are total entry-level cards that are truly beautiful! If you, or someone you know, are just getting started with stamping, you can’t go wrong with these designs. So get a few people together and have fun exploring the joy of stamps, paper and ink! With the supplies in the bundle (see the supplies list below), you can make 40 cards! WOW!!!

#SUontheCASE

We hope our projects today inspired you to try CASE-ing the catalog too! We’re “on the case”, looking for the hashtag #SUontheCASE on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Google+ & Pinterest) and if we find one of your projects, we’ll share it, like it, repost it – we’ll do it all!

AECP: A Floral Card for Any Occasion

Floral cards are great for any occasion.
I love it when I can craft up a design that will accommodate any sentiment. I find that lots of floral designs fit that category.

On the CASE: Merry Café

We’re in full-on holiday mode! Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week? Ann and I have two more CASEes for you today, just in time for your last minute holiday card needs.

Ann and I spent the weekend together at the Stampin’ Up! OnStage Live event in Salt Lake City. So, we thought we’d spend a few minutes coordinating our CASE files. It was so fun to have my CASE partner live and in-person to decide which CASEs we’d take on for this week!

As we were paging through the Holiday Catalog, we discovered a “sleeper” design that became my CASE for this week. I really thought the Merry Café samples were relegated to fall and Halloween – but, if you look on the next page, there’s a holiday design too! Yippee!!

For On the CASE with Ann & Nicole (November 2017 - Merry Cafe, 2017 Holiday Catalog). Featuring, Merry Cafe stamp set, Coffee Cup Framelits dies, Quilted Christmas DSP. For more details including tips for CASE-ing this card from the 2017 Holiday Catalog, click through. #pmretreat #stampinup #christmas #handstamped

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Merry Café
Paper: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″), Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper (5″ x 3 3/4″), Quilted Christmas DSP (4 3/4″ x 3 1/2″), Whisper White CS (4″ x 4″), small pieces of Basic Black, Real Red & Lemon Lime Twist
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Real Red, Lemon Lime Twist
Accessories: Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Quilted Christmas Ribbon
Other: Big Shot, Coffee Cup Framelits Dies

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

BACKGROUND

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. After cutting the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper to size, use your Stampin’ Trimmer to cut the inside out (no use wasting all that great paper!)
  3. Adhere the DSP to the Glimmer Paper with Tear & Tape
  4. Add the ribbon and tie in a bow with long tails. I prefer to use two pieces so I don’t use more ribbon than I need!

COFFEE

  1. Stamp two coffee cup images in Memento Tuxedo Black. Use the center cup ring framelit to measure and mark the outline with a pencil.
  2. Stamp the cup embellishments as shown, using the pencil lines as a guide.
  3. Mark the cup rings on the Real Red and Lemon Lime Twist CS to help stamp the sentiment images.
  4. I tried stamping the whole sentiment at once, but they ended up too far apart. Instead, stamp the sentiment components separately, starting with the bottom. Use the pencil marks to align the curves.
  5. Diecut all of the coffee cup pieces.

ASSEMBLE

  1. Assemble the coffee cups. Affix them to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals!
  2. Add rhinestones to the bottom of the Cup of Cheer cup.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – The most difficult part was determining the size of the Glimmer Paper and DSP – perhaps I still could have gone a bit smaller… Overall, this was a quick card with not a lot of surprises. It would be easy to batch up a few, or a few dozen of these in no time!

We hope our projects today inspired you to try CASE-ing the catalog too! We’ll be On the CASE again in 2 weeks – but, until then…
