The Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop. Join us each month for inspiration and amazing projects using Stampin' Up! products. #pmretreat #stampinup #bloghop #rubberstamping #papercrafting
Welcome to the Blog Hop for April 2017. This month our theme is  the Retiring 2015-17 In Colors. Can you spot all the retiring products in my design today?

Tomorrow marks the release of the “retiring list” – when we find out what will not carry over into the new Stampin’ Up! year. Of course we know that the 2015-17 In Colors will be on the short list. These products typically sell out fast, so now’s the time to stock up on all your favorites!

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Remarkable Ink Big Blog Hop listing shown below. The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

Something Old for Someone New

I don’t often need baby cards, but it’s always good to have a few (at least one boy and one girl) hanging around just in case. Of course, the Suite Sayings stamp set has so many different sentiments, this card could easily be for any number of other occasions with the quick change of sentiment.

There’s lots of fun layers, embellishments, and a new-found favorite from an old product – Dazzling Details. I cannot get enough!

I picked up the Cupcakes & Carousels Embellishment Kit a few weeks ago, thinking that the gold foil labels would be an easy way to add a focal point and sentiment to a design. Well – I was right! I’m 99% sure that this embellishment kit will not carry over into the new catalog, as most of these kinds of products don’t usually carry over. So, another one for the short list, huh? Not only are the labels spectacular, but the Calypso Coral Ombre ribbon is just amazing! I hope that’s a preview of something new to come…

Let’s Create, Simply!

If you want to create cards like the ones I share, there is a simple way to do it. All you have to remember is “Let’s Create, Simply!”. Remembering that phrase will help you recall three key points of design: Layout, Color, Style. Don’t overthink it and use these three steps to make great cards every time. Click on the tabs below for today’s tips and Pin-worthy graphics! (Hint: If you’re on a mobile device, you can save images by pressing and holding on the picture and selecting “Share Image”. You should get a whole bunch of options depending on what apps you have installed on your device.) Click on the “+” signs to open the different sections.

Layout

Here’s a sketch of today’s design. See how simple it is when you break it down into its parts? Save this sketch to a Pinterest board and use it any time you need design inspiration.

Featured Element: Strips

Center strips take this design from bland to fab. Of course, adding in the see-through acetate element really did help that background shine. Don’t be afraid to go with more layers – you can always pull one out (before adhering them all) if you think it’s too much!

Color

Get more color combos like this one over at my blog! pixelmavensretreat.com #pmretreat #crafttips #cards #colorcombos #stampinupColor doesn’t have to be cosmic! Inspiration is all around, and you can hardly go wrong with any of Stampin’ Up!’s colors. Here’s the primary colors used on today’s creation. You can save this to a Pinterest board to use any time you’re looking for project inspiration.

Featured Coordination: In Colors

Of course, the In Color collections are designed to work with each other. They usually feature a combination of the color groups – Brights, Subtles, Regals & Neutrals. You can’t go wrong picking a few to work together in a single design. I would characterize the 2015-17 In Colors as follows:

  • Cucumber Crush – Bright
  • Delightful Dijon – Regal
  • Mint Macaron – Subtle
  • Tip Top Taupe – Neutral
  • Watermelon Wonder – Bright
Style

Featured Style: Gold

Touches of gold, or any metallic, will take your design up a notch. But, it’s important to not go too crazy! I think today’s card would have looked great with just a plain Very Vanilla panel in the background, but I chose to take my new favorite embellishment/tool – the Dazzling Details along with a paintbrush to create a gold glittered designer paper. I feel like I’ve rediscovered Dazzling Details all over again!

Buzzin' In for PPA 235

Welcome to Thursday! I’m so glad this week has flown by – it makes getting back to the daily grind seem not so bad. Well, it’s on to our second Pals Paper Arts challenge for 2015, and as usual, Team 2 has a color challenge for you. It might seem a little deja vu-ish…

Pals Paper Arts 235 - play with us today! (www.palspaperarts.com)

Yah, yah, yah…. we know…. we’re just one color off from the color challenge we had a few weeks ago. What can we say?! Sometimes we just looooove a color or two so much we just have to use them again! LOL!! So, no cheating and submitting your designs from last month – that’s just not fair!

Here’s my fresh, new take on our deja vu challenge:

By Nicole Watt for Pals Paper Arts (PPA235); Baby Bumblebee, Sweet Dreams DSP Daffodil Delight Blendabilities; For more details, click through to my blog! @PMRetreat #stampinup #baby

Maven’s Mastery Tips

Break into Blending: Truth be told – I don’t have any kids, and I don’t even know anyone who’s pregnant right now, but that bee is just toooooooo cute! And it’s a great image to try with your Blendabilities. I taught my classes how to color with our favorite new markers using this card this week! They loved it, and were all on their way to blending success in no time!

A Hint of Sparkle: When I finished this design, I knew I wanted to add some sparkle somewhere, but I couldn’t figure out how. Then I remembered that I had some Dazzling Details that would be perfect on the wings. Just put a little dot in the center, then spread it around with the applicator tip and you’ll have a nice, thin layer that dries pretty quick.

Capitalize on Success: Does the design look similar? How about that scalloped edge? I really fell in love with some elements of our last sketch challenge (PPA 233). This is actually the third time in three weeks that I’ve used this layout. You won’t see the last design for a few days yet, but it’s just smashing! So what if I’ve used the same basic design?

Chalkboard Baby for PPA233

Merry Christmas!

I hope you’re enjoying your day with friends and family – however you see fit! Here’s a secret about this week’s PPA Challenge Sketch – which I designed. I never pay attention to when a sketch will publish, so I hadn’t put any thought into the triangles, and that many will probably think of trees…

Pals Paper Arts 233 - play with us today! (www.palspaperarts.com)

I challenge you NOT to flip the card and make a tree! I hope you’re done with all your holiday cards and don’t need to make a card with an evergreen! 😉

As inspiration, here’s my non-tree design (with a whole bunch of sneak peeks, and a weekly deal!):

By Nicole Watt for Pals Paper Arts (PPA233); Chalkboard paper, Calypso Coral pom-pom trim, Lullaby DSP, A Fitting Occasion; For more details, click through to my blog! @PMRetreat #stampinup #baby

Isn’t it toates?! There’s lots of sneak peeks from the new Occasions catalog, starting with the Calypso Coral Pom-Pom Trim, Lullaby DSP, Chalkboard paper and Rose Pink Chalk Ink. The little sentiment detail on the chalkboard paper is from A Fitting Occasion – on sale this week as a Weekly Deal.

Maven’s Mastery Tips

– The new Lullaby DSP is perfect for boys and girls. The double-sided paper features more blue-focused design on one side, and more pink/coral designs on the other!

– I’m very impressed with how clearly the teeny, tiny letters  popped on the black chalkboard background. We’ll have three shades of chalk ink – you’re going to want them all. Pared with our special chalkboard paper the designs will really pop!

– Do you have the rotary attachment for your paper trimmer? Did you know you can get different blades that add scalloped or perforated edges? It’s such a nice detail without any effort! You’ll have people ooh-ing and aah-ing in no time!

Today’s Featured Products:

Bouncing Baby Boy!

One of my employees just had a baby boy, so, of course, I had to make a card! This design is super cute – and SUPER EASY! I used the Big Top Birthday DSP (122348) to create the background – NO STAMPING NEEDED! A quick Top Note Die (113463) cutout in Tempting Turquoise CS (102067) adds some dimension behind the background image. For some extra pizzazz I popped up the DSP with some Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430), and softened the corners using the 3/16″ Corner Round Punch (119871). The sentiment is from Occasions Alphabet (w-117090 c-123598), inked in Tempting Turquoise (100814) and cut out with the Scallop Oval Punch (119856). Backed with a Scallop Oval Punch in Daffodil Delight CS (119683) and popped up on some more Dimensionals. 1…2…3… Presto Finito!

Wanna take it even farther? Try using your Versa Marker (100901) to color in parts of the balloons, and then use some Clear Embossing Powder (109130) to give the images some added depth!

Don’t forget to stop by my Sale Rack, I’ve got lots of retired Stampin’ Up! products here for sale, including quite a few stamp sets.
