Quickspiration: Coffee Café

Here’s another project with just a few words, but a lot of WOW — It’s time for another Quickspiration!

This week’s Quickspiration isn’t because I’ve been crafting a lot. Actually, maybe it is! I have been creating a lot – because I just finished sending out our holiday cards (60 to family/friends and 60 to customers!). Yowza! But, I also had a card to put together for this week’s Tic Tac Toe Challenge. It’s our last challenge for the year, and we hope you play along!

I was glad that the design came together quickly – and it would be quite simple for you to recreate. If you want to make it even easier, skip the coloring on the cup. I was really excited to show off that little bit of blended color on the cup – it’s a sneak peek of a new offering available through Patreon starting in January! Check it out when you have some time. I’ll be sharing more in the coming weeks…

On the CASE: Coffee Café

Have you sleuthed through the catalog lately? Perhaps to recreate a project you just love? I felt like a real detective for this week’s On the CASE – I’ll tell you why…

I stared, and stared, and compared cardstock for my CASE file this week. I was truly perplexed!! It was clear to me that the base card color was not the same as the cardstock used for the sentiment. What shade of brown could that be? Soft Suede? Too dark. Sahara Sand? Too gray. There was also a mysterious texture/pattern to the paper. What could it be?! At that moment, I was hoping that Ann was having an easier time with her CASE file!

Then – I saw it! Look close at the picture below and check out the crease at the top of the card. It’s not perfectly scored! There’s some cracking going on there. Something you would never see in a Stampin’ Up! catalog sample! Then, it dawned on me!! It was CARDBOARD!! No matter how you might try to score it, cardboard generally cracks like that. So, I hauled out my stash of cardboard to find just the right piece. (I have a LOT of cardboard!)

I did use a Thick Whisper White card base as I like to have a nice, smooth surface for writing on – but, the cardboard worked great! So, let’s put this CASE together!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Coffee Café
Paper: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″), Cardboard (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″), Crumb Cake Cardstock (2″ x 3″),  Coffee Break DSP: Coffee pot/cup pattern (3″ x 4 1/2″), cup ring pattern (2 1/4″ x 3 1/2″), bean tree pattern (1 1/2″ x 3 3/4″), heart pattern (1 x 3 1/2), and 2 coffee cups.
Inks: Early Espresso
Accessories: Whisper White Classic Weave Ribbon, Linen Thread, Corrugated Elements
Other: Big Shot, Coffee Cups Framelits Dies

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Stamp the sentiment on the 2″ piece of Crumb Cake. Make a small mark at the bottom center. Then cut from either side to create the flag end. (I tried the Triple Banner Punch, but it was too severe of an angle).
  3. Use two small pieces (approx 3 inches each) of the Whisper White Classic Weave Ribbon and create two zig-zags as shown. Placing a glue dot at each bend will keep the zig-zag shape. (I didn’t have the Classic Weave Ribbon, so I used Powder Pink Shimmer Ribbon)
  1. Adhere the ribbon pieces to the back of the coffee cup/pot DSP panel as shown.
  2. Assemble the card base:
    • Adhere the piece of cardboard to the card base.
    • Crinkle the edges of the coffee cup/pot DSP panel. Adhere.
    • Crinkle the coffee ring DSP panel. Adhere
    • Cut a shallow flag end on the coffee plant DSP. Adhere.
    • Tear the ends off the heart DSP. Adhere.
    • Adhere the sentiment!
  1. Fussy cut or use the Coffee Cups Framelits to cut out two coffee cups.
  2. Create a bow with two 10″ pieces of Linen Twine.
  3. Adhere the bow with a glue dot.
  4. Adhere the corrugated heart.
  5. Adhere the coffee cups, popping the top one up with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – Once I figured out the cardboard trick, the rest was just about eyeballing the measurements, 2 seconds of stamping and some quick die-cutting. Layers always make for a lush-looking design, but really, with our coordinating DSP – it couldn’t be easier! This card can be whipped up faster than a Pumpkin Spice Latte at your favorite coffee bar!

Today’s design was inspired by a new Tic Tac Toe Challenge that I found particularly challenging. I was totally in the Holiday mood, and “pumpkin” was throwing me off. Well, I needed some sympathy cards too – per a customer’s request, so it was time to change direction. There’s fussy cutting to be had here, so if you’re a fan, you’ll love this one. If not, it’s a great opportunity to build your skills! Enjoy today’s Quickspiration!

On the CASE: Merry Café

We’re in full-on holiday mode! Can you believe that Thanksgiving is next week? Ann and I have two more CASEes for you today, just in time for your last minute holiday card needs.

Ann and I spent the weekend together at the Stampin’ Up! OnStage Live event in Salt Lake City. So, we thought we’d spend a few minutes coordinating our CASE files. It was so fun to have my CASE partner live and in-person to decide which CASEs we’d take on for this week!

As we were paging through the Holiday Catalog, we discovered a “sleeper” design that became my CASE for this week. I really thought the Merry Café samples were relegated to fall and Halloween – but, if you look on the next page, there’s a holiday design too! Yippee!!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Merry Café
Paper: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″), Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper (5″ x 3 3/4″), Quilted Christmas DSP (4 3/4″ x 3 1/2″), Whisper White CS (4″ x 4″), small pieces of Basic Black, Real Red & Lemon Lime Twist
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Real Red, Lemon Lime Twist
Accessories: Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Quilted Christmas Ribbon
Other: Big Shot, Coffee Cup Framelits Dies

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

BACKGROUND

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. After cutting the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper to size, use your Stampin’ Trimmer to cut the inside out (no use wasting all that great paper!)
  3. Adhere the DSP to the Glimmer Paper with Tear & Tape
  4. Add the ribbon and tie in a bow with long tails. I prefer to use two pieces so I don’t use more ribbon than I need!

COFFEE

  1. Stamp two coffee cup images in Memento Tuxedo Black. Use the center cup ring framelit to measure and mark the outline with a pencil.
  2. Stamp the cup embellishments as shown, using the pencil lines as a guide.
  3. Mark the cup rings on the Real Red and Lemon Lime Twist CS to help stamp the sentiment images.
  4. I tried stamping the whole sentiment at once, but they ended up too far apart. Instead, stamp the sentiment components separately, starting with the bottom. Use the pencil marks to align the curves.
  5. Diecut all of the coffee cup pieces.

ASSEMBLE

  1. Assemble the coffee cups. Affix them to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals!
  2. Add rhinestones to the bottom of the Cup of Cheer cup.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – The most difficult part was determining the size of the Glimmer Paper and DSP – perhaps I still could have gone a bit smaller… Overall, this was a quick card with not a lot of surprises. It would be easy to batch up a few, or a few dozen of these in no time!

2 Minutes to Finish (2M2F) – Merry Little Christmas

It’s time again for another Tic Tac Toe Challenge! It never ceases to amaze me how diverse the Design Team projects end up, and how diverse the entries are. If you’re looking for a great source of inspiration, this challenge is it for sure!

If you stopped by yesterday, you know that I’m exploring the Merry Little Christmas Memories & More card pack for the next few weeks. I’m really enjoying all of the traditional sentiments and song lyrics on the cards, as well as the coordinating patterns an designs. This card pack coordinates with the rest of the Merry Little Christmas suite, so it pairs up perfectly with all of the stamp sets, papers and embellishments.

So, how would I match up these memory cards up with the new Tic Tac Toe challenge? Let’s take a quick look at the board:

Play along at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge - Inspiring you 8-ways each week! Find us @tttchallenge or tictactoechallenge.com. New challenges every Thursday!

I instantly honed in on the first column: Vibrant, Circle, Stripes – as I wanted to use the unique color combo of Lemon Lime Twist and Old Olive. It sure is vibrant!

For the Tic Tac Toe Challenge (#TTTC022). Featuring: Merry Little Christmas Memories & More, Merry Music Specialty DSP, Quilt Top TIEF. For more details including a 2 Minutes to Finish video, click through. #pmretreat #stampinup #christmas #2minutes2finish #handstamped

Look, ma! No Stamping!! I love using the Memories & More card packs to create quick and stunning cards! These beauties come together in just a few minutes, every time. So, that’s why I’m sharing another 2 Minutes to Finish video today. Though I won’t be showing this exact card (there’s only one of the silver acetate sentiments in the pack), I’ve got another quick idea using the suite – so, it’s really a 2-fer!

How about that? Here’s some more tips to make the challenge card a success!

  • I embossed the kraft cardstock with the Quilt Top TIEF. To make the pattern pop (see all those circles?), I lightly swiped the Whisper White Craft Ink across the embossed cardstock. Don’t go for even coverage – just hints here and there are enough!
  • Adhere the foil acetate pieces with Tombo Multi or Tear & Tape. Just put the adhesive behind the silver parts and you’ll never see it!

For the card in the video:

  • It’s worth the extra time to amp up the design by covering the sentiment letters with Fine Tip Glue. That little bit of shine and dimension is a worthy return on investment!

On the CASE: Coffee Café

Have you sleuthed through the catalog lately? Perhaps to recreate a project you just love? I felt like a real detective for this week’s On the CASE – I’ll tell you why… I stared, and stared, and compared cardstock for my CASE file this week. I was truly perplexed!! It was clear to me that the base card color was not the same as the cardstock used for the sentiment. What shade of brown could that be?

Quickspiration: Butterfly Basics Sympathy & Fussy Cutting

Looking for quick inspiration to get your creativity started? Welcome to a new series – Quickspiration!
I’m excited to start this new blog series – Quickspiration – because I craft a lot more than I share on my blog. I know that you’d love to see what I’m working on, but I don’t always have time to go in-depth with tips and tricks, videos, etc…. So, these posts will be short on words, but have more images so you can see exactly what went down.

Got time for these quick cards? Of course!
