2 Minutes to Finish (2M2F) – Santa’s Sleigh

On the lookout for a quick holiday card this year? There’s nothing quicker than a 2 Minutes to Finish design!

Sometimes you just need a few extra cards to send out during the holidays, or perhaps just something quick and simple to do all of them (sending 100 you say?) That means that sometimes stamping is just too much!  I know it sounds crazy, but it’s totally possible. And, we’ll use the latest Tic Tac Toe Challenge board to get started.

Play along at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge - Inspiring you 8-ways each week! Find us @tttchallenge or tictactoechallenge.com. New challenges every Thursday!

There were so many great options from this week’s board! But, to keep it simple and quick, I went with the bottom row – Sparkle, No Sentiment, Die Cut.

For the Tic Tac Toe Challenge (#TTTC018). Featuring: Santa's Sleigh stamp set, Santa's Sleigh Thinlits dies, Stitched Shapes Framelits. For more details and a video to make this design, click through. #pmretreat #stampinup #holidays #deer #reindeer #nosentiment #handstamped

A lot of what I share here, and the cards I make for my classes usually have quite a few steps, and are often “wow” cards. BUT, there’s always a need for that quick and simple card that you can put together in just a few minutes, but that still looks clean and polished (and not rushed).

2 Minutes to Finish is a video series that dials all of that back and gets you creating in just a few minutes. The goal is to create a card in 2-3 minutes that has a nice, professional look, but that doesn’t take any time at all! Let’s check out today’s video!

Two down, 98 to go! With this design, I’ll be done well before Thanksgiving! (the American one, not the Canadian one!!)

I hope you enjoyed my Tic Tac Toe Challenge inspiration today, and that you play along with us this week!

On the CASE: Santa’s Sleigh

Welcome to another On the CASE investigation! Ann and I are on the CASE, working our way through the project samples you see in Stampin’ Up! catalogs. This week, we’re full-on Holiday – all from the Annual Catalog. So, time to don your Sherlock hat and follow along as we sleuth through these splendid samples!

I headed to a carryover from last year’s Holiday catalog – Santa’s Sleigh, because I was so glad to see this set for another year. There’s so many fun ways to use it, and isn’t that little teddy bear just so cute? He doesn’t make an appearance in this week’s CASE, but he’ll be in some other projects I have planned for the next few weeks. Ann is investigating a vintage design with some modern twists. Be sure to check it out after you read through my CASE file!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Santa’s Sleigh
Paper: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″), Cherry Cobbler Cardstock (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″), Be Merry DSP (1 3/4″ x 5 1/2″), Window Sheet (3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″), scraps of Cherry Cobbler, Smoky Slate & Whisper White
Inks: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Gray
Accessories: Metallics Sequin Assortment, 3/8″ Metallic Edge Ribbon, Rhinestone Basics Jewels
Other: Big Shot, Santa’s Sleigh Thinlits, Circle Collection Framelits
Adhesives: Foam Strips, Tear & Tape

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

I created this week’s CASE in two parts. The background, then the sentiment and deer.

BACKGROUND

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Stamp three trees on the card base. I used Basic Gray, stamped off once to get a lighter color.
  3. Adhere the DSP strip to the bottom of the Cherry Cobbler panel. Diecut a circle using the largest circle from the Layered Circle Framelits.
  4. Stamp stars randomly on the Cherry Cobbler portion of the panel, using Cherry Cobbler ink.
  1. On the reverse side, adhere the Window Sheet over the hole. Border the window with Foam Adhesive Strips. Use extra strips, or Stampin’ Dimensionals elsewhere on the back.
  2. Adhere Tear & Tape across the front of the panel where the DSP meets the Cherry Cobbler.
  3. Adhere one piece of ribbon on each side of the window opening.  Once adhered, use the two ends to tie a bow!
  1. Add a generous pile of Metallics Sequin Assortment to the card base – in the center where the window will end up.
  2. Remove all the backing from the prepared window panel and carefully line it up to the card base and adhere. The shaker part is done!
  3. Stamp the following images:
    – Deer in Basic Gray on Smoky Slate cardstock
    – Sentiment in Basic Gray on Whisper White cardstock
    – Bow in Cherry Cobbler on Cherry Cobbler cardstock
  4. DIecut the bow and deer. Cut the sentiment down to 1/4″ tall. Freehand cut the flag ends with paper snips.
  5. Affix bow to deer, add a rhinestone! Affix the final deer and sentiment to card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 2 out of 5 – This card is a cutie-patootie! And, though it looks totally impressive, it can be completed relatively quickly. Break it down into steps and get it done in assembly-line fashion. What will take the longest is the bow – so, skip it and make a knot instead. Or, do a strip of ribbon all the way across, and add a separate bow with a glue dot. Either way would make that part easier!

#SUontheCASE

We hope our projects today inspired you to try CASE-ing the catalog too! We’re “on the case”, looking for the hashtag #SUontheCASE on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Google+ & Pinterest) and if we find one of your projects, we’ll share it, like it, repost it – we’ll do it all!

We’ll be On the CASE again in 2 weeks!

VIDEO: How to Wow – Metallic Ink

Tick-Tock, it’s time to play! Design team O is on the scene with a new Tic Tac Toe board and some amazing inspiration!

You might wonder what it’s like to be a part of an online design challenge team. Is it a huge commitment? Are the designers nice? Is it a lot of pressure? Well, we’re looking for a new designer to fill a position starting in late October, so, maybe you should apply! Click here for details. Here’s a little more about TTTC:

  • We all blog so we can post our projects for the challenge. Some of us post projects more than others – it all depends on our business needs.
  • We have a private Facebook group where we coordinate our challenge submissions and create the challenge cards.
  • Challenge cards are submitted and created in advance so we can work on our inspiration projects ahead of time and work out any issues or questions with elements.
  • We’re all super nice and supportive. There’s quite a few first-time design team members, so there’s lots of support to get questions answered and people going in the right direction.
  • Felicita manages all of the blog posts, and I manage all of the social media posting. DT members are expected to post comments on the entries. Other design challenges sometimes divvy up the work further, but we find that this works for us so far!
  • We represent lots of different styles and products (not just Stampin’ Up!). We love that we can reach crafters with different styles.

My design for today follows the first row across: Metallic, Glow, Autumn Colors:

Play along at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge - Inspiring you 8-ways each week! Find us @tttchallenge or tictactoechallenge.com. New challenges every Thursday!

Originally, the upper left corner was “Metallic Ink”, so I took the challenge and figured out how to make metallic ink with Stampin’ Up! reinkers! This is the creativity that ensued:

For the Tic Tac Toe Challenge (#TTTC016). Featuring: Paisleys & Posies stamp set, Paisleys Framelits dies, Cajun Craze, Daffodil Delight & Pumpkin Pie reinkers, Clear Wink of Stella, Copper embossing. For more details and a video on making metallic ink, click through. #pmretreat #stampinup #fall #watercolor #metallicInk #thankful #handstamped

The technique is more than adding Wink of Stella on top of the ink. In this way, the metallic effect pools along with the ink color. It is stunning and a TON of fun! Here’s how I did it:

I’m betting you’ll be making metallic ink combos for weeks! It’s so much fun!! Here’s some other details that make today’s card a success:

  • Use Tear & Tape for no-fuss application of foil sheet strips. First I cut the strip to the correct width (1/4″ in this case), and then I add the Tear & Tape to the back. Affix the element to the watercolor layer, then snip the edges to fit. Perfecto, with no adhesive mess!
  • The Embossing Buddy is a MUST for perfect embossing without any strays. Once the embossing cools, you can wipe off any extra powder from the Buddy. You’ll be soooo happy you took the time for this step.
  • Keep it simple! Let that amazing background shine by not adding a whole lot else! Your recipient will be stunned enough, there’s no need to add anything else!!

On the CASE: Paisleys & Posies

Yippee! Ann and I are back On the CASE with two new projects that we’ve copied from current Stampin’ Up! catalogs – just for you! You don’t want to miss out on the festive fun we’re both covering today. These catalog samples are to die for!

Ann is CASE-ing out another new set from the Holiday catalog, but I thought I’d pop into the Annual Catalog – because, well, you know…. it gets lonely this time of year! 😉

There was a sample that I saw when I first leafed through the pages, and I knew I wanted to give it a try. Well, why not now? It’s the Paisleys & Posies sample on page 128. I love that the concept artists pulled in such a bright palette. Does it mean it’s less “fall”? Nope – I just think it says more fun!

Stamps and Paper and Inks … Oh, My!

Stamps: Paisleys & Posies
Paper: Thick Whisper White Cardstock (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″), Pool Party Cardstock (4 1/4″ 5 1/2″), Shimmer White Cardstock (4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″), Whisper White Cardstock (4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″), Pool Party (2″ x 3 1/2″), scraps of Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo & Peekaboo Peach
Inks: Pool Party, Lemon Lime Twist, Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach
Accessories: Basics Rhinestones, Lemon Lime Ombre Ribbon
Other: Big Shot, Precision Base Plate, Paisleys Framelits dies, Stitched Shapes Framelits, Aqua Painter

On the CASE Notes

(your step-by-step guide)

We’ll start from the base

BACKGROUND

  1. Score your card base at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish the edge with a bone folder.
  2. Affix the Pool Party panel to the card base.
  3. On the Shimmer White Cartstock panel, watercolor some Lemon Lime Twist on the bottom and Pool Party on the top.
  4. Stamp the sentiment using Emerald Envy on Pool Party. Cut out with a Stitched Oval Framelit.

WINDOW PANEL

This panel is really cool – pay attention to how the framelits are laid out!

  1. Arrange the framelits as pictured on the Whisper White Cardstock panel. Run through the Big Shot.
  2. Wrap the Lemon Lime Twist Ombre Ribbon as shown. Affix on either end with Glue Dots.
  3. Affix panel to card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals

SENTIMENT & ASSEMBLE

  1. Stamp posies images. Cut out shapes as shown.
  2. Arrange posy shapes behind the sentiment.
  3. Affix the sentiment to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

How Hard Was It to Crack this CASE?

Difficulty Level: 3 out of 5 – I’d call this one “middle of the road” as far as difficulty. Yes, there are a few steps, but there’s nothing too difficult once you’ve broken it down. Even the watercoloring is “fool proof”. Since it’s a background element, it’s ok if it doesn’t look great – most of it will be covered!

Ann is CASE-ing out an amazing creation on page 93 of the Annual Catalog, and this time, I thought I would sleuth out the sample for a new stamp set and punch bundle – Tabs for Everything. It’s on page 43 of the Annual Catalog, and there’s all sorts of cute samples to dive into!

VIDEO: How to Wow – Simple Stitching

I love stitching details on cards, don’t you? If you’re not the sewing type, or can’t be bothered with pulling out a machine, but would like to add a few stitches, today’s How to Wow is for you!

I really do love stitching details on cards. I don’t think it will ever go out of style! But, often, I struggle with the want, and the need to get out my sewing machine to add a few stitches. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

I will confess that I recently invested in one of those mini sewing machines. So, now I have one in my craft room that I can just pull out and stitch a line fairly quickly. But, sometimes you still want a thicker stitch, or a color that maybe you don’t have in thread. So, what’s a craft maven to do? I’ve got a simple approach that you’re going to love!

I was inspired by today’s new Tic Tac Toe Challenge board:

Play along at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge - Inspiring you 8-ways each week! Find us @tttchallenge or tictactoechallenge.com. New challenges every Thursday!

I went for the middle row – Dimension, Embellishment, Die-cut. I thought that I’d do up an adorable 3x3 note (my favorite size) to show off the versatility of a new bundle in the Holiday Catalog – Christmas Quilt.

For the Tic Tac Toe Challenge (#TTTC014). Featuring, Christmas Quilt stamp set, Quilt Builder Framelits, Wood Textures DSP. For more details and a video on simple stitching, click through. #pmretreat #stampinup #3x3note #stitching #encouragement #handstamped

Hopefully you spied the 3 or 4 little stitches I added to the quilt square. Using the die made it a breeze, but there’s other ways you can quickly add a few stitches, so, let’s take a look at the video to see!

Ready to stitch away? I hope so! Here’s some other tips about this mini beauty:

  • I wanted to show off the versatility of this stamp set beyond the holidays, so I reached for my Color Coordinator to come up with a great combo – Rich Razzleberry, Blushing Bride and Sahara Sand
  • Don’t be afraid to snip up your sentiments. The one I used was two lines that I broke up so they would look perfect on this little masterpiece
  • Add a paper frame – I cut an additional quilt square from Blushing Bride and rotated it a quarter turn so it would peek out behind the main square. It adds the perfect extra sumthin’ sumthin’!
